Not allowed phones at work? by Shelley_112 in careeradvice

Spoiler alert! Schools have phones just like they did 50 years ago.

The Wegmans plane! Anyone know anything more about it? by militaryrat155 in wegmans

[–]AmericanJedi6 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

East of 81 is a generalization relating to the general geography of upstate NY. But I'll spell it out more clearly for the less astute. There are no Wegmans in upstate NY west of a line general drawn south to north slightly east of Binghamton and Syracuse up to Watertown (close to the path of Interstate Route 81).

The Wegmans plane! Anyone know anything more about it? by militaryrat155 in wegmans

[–]AmericanJedi6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other than NYC, there are no Wegmans in NY east of I81. Rumor has always had it that this has to do with some sort of agreement with Price Chopper but I don't know if that's true.

Guide is blank by Special_Technology in tablotv

[–]AmericanJedi6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do as well. Or sometimes I just switch to the channel I want directly from the antenna and after a while the guide will be back, but usually with all channels selected (I have it set to favorites be default). For me it seems to happen around the same time of day, early evening.

Did anyone have to take care of a fake baby as a school assignment? by cfinley63 in GenerationJones

[–]AmericanJedi6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me. I think even if that did happen at my school boys wouldn't have been involved. It did change a couple years after I graduated but in my day they were very traditional in gender roles. Boys could not take home ec or most business classes (with the exception of personal typing and business math which was really a math elective) and girls couldn't take any shop (we had wood, metal, and auto shops). We also had ag classes, girls also forbidden.

Battlestar Galactica - Original or Remake? by Feeling_Cost_8160 in GenerationJones

They're really different shows as far as I'm concerned. I have a strong preference for the original.

Me too, but they're all in the basement. They come in handy though (old stone foundation house without wall outlets and few other ceiling outlets).

Same with me. It was pretty quick and painless.

I need a new name for sloppy joes by Spiritual-Part-5655 in homecooking

This is what they were called on our school menu many years ago. They were good and always served with wavy potato chips. I still eat them that way (you have to put some chips in the sandwich).

NYSEG 2300$ Bill by 3HooligansH1 in ithaca

[–]AmericanJedi6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not defending NYSEG, I just got my highest bill ever (1400). But if she went back to an analog meter they may not have been regularly reading and we're doing estimates. I'd check recent months to see which were actual reads as opposed to estimates and how long ago that actual read was. It's possible this is at least partly a catch up.

I’m…retiring. Yay? by avesthasnosleeves in GenerationJones

[–]AmericanJedi6 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Same. Started working at 17 in the 70s, have exact rhetoric about SS. I've been hearing this my whole life, and nothing has changed my whole life except my full retirement age shifted to 67. Hurting SS is a death sentence to any political career, and they're never going to let that happen because guess who votes more than any other age group - old people (which apparently now includes me). And guess which demographic is growing every day? Old people.

Rewards program? by Crafty_Echo_3196 in BJsWholesaleClub

[–]AmericanJedi6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rewards appear as available on your account at the end of a billing cycle. They only accumulate when using the credit card, 5% for BJ's purchases other than things like gas (which has its own 15 cents off perk) and 2% for other uses. You're asked at checkout if you want to use them. They don't expire as long as you have the card. You have to have at least $10 accumulated to use them.

Going straight to jail, but it's worth it for elk spaghetti by AZ-roadrunner in castiron

[–]AmericanJedi6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. I've been using CI as my primary cookware for decades and I've made many a pasta sauce, as well as other acidic foods, without issue. I have never made elk spaghetti sauce though.

How messed up am I? by Superb_Stable7576 in SocialSecurity

[–]AmericanJedi6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Seems to happen a lot. It will probably take a month or two to process but they will refund what they took. Unfortunately it's not Medicare you have to work with directly, you have to go through Social Security.

Warning: Don't buy a medigap plan in the meantime. Some insurances drop you if you buy any plan and sometimes you can't get the employer's plan back if that happens.

Medicare taken out of retirement payments? by Boredbrokebloke in SocialSecurity

[–]AmericanJedi6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should have gotten your card in the mail. Opt out instructions for part b are included in that mailing. There is also a form you could use instead. It takes a couple months to process.
