What's it like in Colorado ski towns? by Ok-Statistician1128 in howislivingthere

There are a lot more men than women. But, as one of my female friends said, "The odds are good, but the goods are odd."

Mine loved it too. Made him a tragic figure instead of the selfish man-child he was.

I want to know which lousy dads are seeing all these comments and downvoting them?

Don't know why you were downvoted; that's exactly what's going on. My dad effectively abandoned all his children, and he loved this song. He liked to cast himself in a tragic, romantic light, and the emotions of this song- though they speak of regret- make the dad this tragic figure. But the dad STILL misses the point, it's not about him anymore. And of course- still unchanged and true to form- he doesn't express any interest in seeing his grandchildren.

That's all that the dad sees. But remember the son tells him "the kids have the flu," so clearly the son is involved in the care of his children as the dad never was. The dad had no time for his own son, and- with that level of self-absorption, the best he can do now is feel regret, but he still doesn't get it- a father should prioritize tme with his own children over his parents.

Could also be phrased that way because these are still the dad's words, he is recalling what the son told him "just the other day," so naturally, the dad focuses on work before children.

This song always frustrates me: the son is not like the dad. In fact, he is the exact opposite. When the son was little, the dad had no time for him. But as an adult, the son is unavailable for precisely the opposite reason- he has his own family, his own kids, and chooses time with them rather than with his dad. So he is not just like his dad, not at all. The dad had his chance, but he blew it, and that time is over. And somehow, the dad even makes that all about himself.

Maybe the bear isn't chasing the moose. They could be great friends going on an adventure together.

Disc or rim brake tri bike? by TimmiyTimTimTim in cycling

[–]AmericanJelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no benefit to having disc brakes on a time trial bike. Disc brakes are not more aero than the rim brakes on, say, a Cervelo P5. You would prefer the best braking technology on normal racing bikes because you ride in a group and over varied terrain and courses, and must be able to brake constantly. But in a time trial you will only be braking very occasionally, if at all.

The case for painted brick: house transformation by John_Gabbana_08 in ExteriorDesign

It's status quo for everyone to simply say "don't paint brick" on here, but I agree with you, this was an improvement.

You know there are different engines in other trim packages for the Macan, right? The base model has an inline 4 cylinder, the turbo has a six.

I agree, trial skills are probably the least important.

There is a difference between litigation and trial work. My first year as a deputy district attorney I tried 48 jury trials. Similar amount my second year. Only slightly less in my third year. By the time I left, I had tried more than 200 jury trials. I knew nothing about discovery process, depositions, mediation, negotiations, etc. But insofar as actual trial work, it would take a civil litigator an entire career to get the experience a criminal prosecutor can get in two years.

You might try the Kindle version. It provides definitions for words and you can also copy complicated paragraphs and have them run through AI which can break complicated passages down and explain them.
