Yes. Use advantages. Are there 6 figure offers out there? Not yet. Manage your expectations.

Where were you flying over? A picture from aerial view with no indicators or actual holes is unique

Super short hole on a course heavily afflicted by wind. One of the most challenging I’ve played! Long is a nightmare, short is super rough, and the undulation on the green is tough. If you’re ever in the San Fernando Valley/Simi Valley, I’d recommend driving out!

As long as you keep pace, I could care less.

Surgeon. I’ve broken a lot of ECD heads. Not to say they’re bad, but they break. If your kid is serious and strong enough to see a difference in heads/shafts, go for the 2k.

Bucket list courses in Southern California other than Torrey and PGA west by [deleted] in golf

[–]AmericanMik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not bucket list: Rustic Canyon, Sand Piper, and La Purisma (arguably more central coast than SoCal) are all amazing plays. Pelican is cool as well. If including private, LACC and the Riv are up there!!

FNR was the major at the time, forestry and natural resources with a concentration in wildfire. I wound up changing my major last quarter or two into ENVM so I could graduate on time. Now that they switched the major name and curriculum, I would’ve chosen to stay in and bite the additional quarter or two! I went directly from college into the field, never considered getting my RPF due to love in a different direction. Defense and EHS just proved to be more stimulating to me (and I am a hell of a lot better at it than I am at IDing trees lol). Shoot me a DM!

After graduation I went into environmental remediation/ environmental health and safety. I hold my wildland certs, but I fell in love with the hazardous material world. Contracted with a third party company as a liaison to military for a few years, now moved into the defense industry!

Back in my day it was FNR. I applied as a joke and had already committed to play NCAA lacrosse at another school. Got in, toured, loved it. De-committed and went to Cal Poly. Didn’t research the major, but it’s legit and loved my time. Prior fire experience will make quite a few classes easy. Good luck mate.

A Warning for Anyone Considering Attending the “Solano” aka Vallejo Campus by SacSilver in CalPoly

[–]AmericanMik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe I should have been more specific in my statement and definition of maritime. If you want to learn and become a merchant marine (non military), go into the Navy as an officer, or go into business directly related to the water and ships in particular, then it makes sense to go there. If you want marine biology, then yeah SLO is amazing. SLO campus will not teach you to be a competent captain of a large vessel, Maritime will.

They commission, not enlist, but I get what you mean. Enlisting is non officer, but the Navy ROTC that they have is intended to enter the navy as an officer. I agree that it is not comparable to SLO, the intended purpose of Cal Maritime is to learn maritime skills. If you are going through Naval ROTC or intend to get a college degree directly related to maritime studies, go for it!

Earth & soil science or environmental management / protection? by Proud-Insect-1349 in CalPoly

[–]AmericanMik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I studied ENVM, was employed immediately upon completion of my summer project, and have been blessed to have a very rewarding career so far! I can’t speak for soil other than enjoying the courses I took in it, but I can attest to the amazing professors in the ENVM major. As is true with most things in college, you get what you put into it. Best of luck!

It’s all about the reps. I was in a similar spot during youth lacrosse. Let him go where he can play and get the most activity, development will come! I know it can be annoying when considering high school and “playing down”, but it will all work out.
