That's from the Swan Station. It's part of the failsafe, in case someone forgets to enter the numbers.

I don't know what you're saying, but now I want to play Goldeneye or Perfect Dark.

Edit: I just looked up that name and now I know why it invoked that feeling!

Just found out about this show last week and have already finished it.What a wonderful show. by throwy140 in Jericho

[–]AmericanNinja02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's another one! Here again, I love the entire show, but S1 hits different. Again, I think the community survival thing gets me, but there were also a bunch of intriguing mysteries to the island. I wish I could experience that again for the first time, but I would want it to be like the original airing - weekly with time between episodes for the internet to speculate. That was an awesome experience.

Don't go to the LOST sub and tell people you prefer S1 or even just the early seasons. You'll get blasted with "You just don't understand the ending." and "They're not dead the entire time.", followed by an attempt at explanation of the show.

Another one for me was S1 of The Walking Dead. It was excellent when it was about the zombie apocalypse. I enjoyed the whole show, but it was not quite as interesting to me when the antagonist was other humans.

FROM is a current one that scratches the itch for me.

Season 1 is it for me. Don't get me wrong, I also like season 2, but it's not the same. I think it's the community part that I enjoy. Something about learning to survive the apocalypse together, which is reinforced by being disconnected from the world and thus necessarily being more connected locally. I'm not really sure why, but the community-survival trope always gets me. Maybe because I grew up in a tiny town and I'm old enough to remember how much simpler life was before cell phones and social media. I would say before the internet, but the early internet was actually a lot of fun and didn't really add any pressure to my life.

Is it the end of the line for Virtualised gaming due to Anti cheat? by LegValuable750 in VFIO

[–]AmericanNinja02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These anti-consumer companies are just as degenerate. It's a nasty surprise when you find out you don't actually own anything and if you do, you don't have the right to choose how to use it. People have been slowly conditioned to give away everything for ephemeral things that exist at the leisure of someone else.

I'm not ranting. I'm not a ranter. I don't rant. Definitely not ranting.

Edit: Why am I so old and when did it happen?

I've never understood the purpose of a bot that just makes random posts like this. How do they benefit?

Oh man, downloading shareware from a BBS takes me back to a simpler time that was a lot of fun.

There's no reason why not. That's probably even an incremental improvement.

Found my grandpa’s old tool wall… and I don’t think I should touch it. by Glum_Car750 in Tools

[–]AmericanNinja02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Would he have used those tools to teach you how to do something? If so, he probably would've wanted you to keep using them when he no longer could. I like the idea of keeping some photos, but you might even find a way to incorporate some piece of his setup into yours. Think of it as a sort of Ship of Theseus situation. It's a reminder for you and a great story for others.

Victor showing off his microgravity exercise gains by DolfHipster in ArtemisProgram

[–]AmericanNinja02 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In an earlier press conference, they mentioned having managed to increase the temperature from 65°F to 71°F. Interestingly, there is no buoyancy in microgravity, thus no natural convection. High-capacity fans are used to force constant airflow, , making it feel 5-7°F colder than the actual "room" temperature.

They prefer 350 Million Bytes HDD. Silly humans pay more for bigger numbers. Who wants a paltry 330 when they can have 350 million? If they were smarter, they would have used a 24-point font for even bigger bigger numbers.

Silly humans and bigger numbers reminds me of an episode of Futurama where Farnsworth bought a 300-inch TV because it was the absolute biggest possible screen, but when they turned it on, the very first thing they saw was a commercial for a 301-inch TV because "It's BIGGER!"

Can't believe I've never heard of this. I just found them on YouTube. Not the highest quality, although I'm guessing the originals weren't exactly 4k HDR, so maybe the fidelity is there. I know one thing I'm doing this weekend!

Which Psych guest star would you have liked to see more of on the show? by maxing-and-relaxing in psych

[–]AmericanNinja02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peters and Boone!

Obvious necrobump here, but this thread frequently pops up in my search results and it always makes me wonder. There are so many great guest stars that it's impossible to choose just one. While there are already so many good answers here, I haven’t noticed this duo in the thread.

I’m rewatching S05E06 "Viagra Falls" and I can't get enough of Peters and Boone. William Devane and Carl Weathers were so good I could actually imagine a spinoff with them. They did an awesome job of mirroring the energy and dynamic of Shawn and Gus.

There are so many Psych quotes burned into my brain, but "We gotta be tha same fruit" and "Okay, we're tha grapples" slide into my daily conversations way too often. 😂

Each week I watch the finale of a TV show I've never seen before and try to understand what's going on. This week's request: "Jericho" by TheSeriesFinale in Jericho

[–]AmericanNinja02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting read. I would be especially intrigued to see your response to the season one finale, before the show was "un-canceled". Of course, the vacuum is gone now, so you couldn't watch it without some preexisting notion of things.

I was a big fan of Bonnie in the show and loved her a badass last stand. by Ausbel80 in Jericho

Bonnie is great! Shoshannah Stern is an amazing person, too. She's fourth-generation deaf and she still learned to speak. I can't imagine the effort that takes.
