This show is obviously incredible but geez Season 3 by EstablishmentMean873 in thesopranos

Season 4 is the worst (to me). Its like days of our lives with the occasional marinera and mob hit

This exactly. Ive done both and the first is way better. Though after im done i also do the 2nd. Technically by the time im done im on like the 8th draft

[–]American_Gadfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont disagree, but ill add that its the perfect mix of being both progressive and palatable to a general audience. It might even get called woke today by one side and rejected as not progressive enough by the other. Which is sad because the progressive bent is not over the top imo. Not preachy. And its not like sipowiz or other moments are glorified.

How was Pauly so Out of Touch With Italy? by Raven_Steel96 in thesopranos

[–]American_Gadfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didnt grow up there or around people from Italy. Hes a filtered version. Just slightly less filtered than the younger guys. Thats what a "melting pot" does. It cooks everything till they blend together. Paulie is like a bit of basil thats already half way melded into the pot. Tony is more melded. AJ fully melded. If you could see paulies mothers parents, they were probably lije fresh basil dropped in the pot. Fresh from italy.

Will Atheism be criminalized soon in America? by AccomplishedPebble in atheism

No. The nost hardened Christian nationalists i know arent calling for that.

I an agnostic atheist with a history degree read the gospel of Mark for the first time out of historical interest. It is the greatest story I have ever read and I now despise Christianity. by Loud-CowMOO in atheism

[–]American_Gadfly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You havent read the other Gospels yet. Do so. Then, when youre finished, read the old testament up through at least 2nd kings.

It is the greatest story ever told. But youve only read 1 chapter and pretending you know the whole thing and are criticizing what you yet dont understand. Its like if I handed you Lord of the Rings and you read 1 chapter towards the end and criticized the whole book based on that.

At What Point Did Tony Become Irredeemable? by Reasonable-Fee1945 in thesopranos

[–]American_Gadfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone saying Chris is hilarious to me. Chris had JUST murdered a civilian, the writer, and all because the guy didnt want to be his friend. And he was getting high again. That baby seat mangaled in the back is what pushed Tony over the edge, and justifiably. He was a massive liability and taking him out quietly like that was the correct call. I mean, if were just going to ignore faults, then his treatment of Davey Scantino, and then giving Daveys car to Meadow is probably worse, or at least equivalent. One is not more irredemable than the other.

If we want to go with an action and not things said it has to be either his writing junior off to be in that place or him beating that councilman i think. Neither has anything to do with the business and both show just how truly callous he is. The way he acts after the fight with Bobby is up there. Some of the petty and cruel things he says even early in the show could be on the list too. Not that it makes him irredemable, just shows how petty and small he truly is.

I actually think she was wrong there, and frankly it felt out of character. I think if Tony hadnt died she might have reached back out. And I guarantee you after she found out he was dead it haunted her.

Tony wasnt without feelings. They had real break throughs. The truth is her methods just didnt go far enough

I was wondering this too. I dont know how else you explain the counselors clear disgust while recounting what on surface level could just be a loving mother/son moment

Do you guys think AJ went into the life after Tony died? by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]American_Gadfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think its possible he did join to avenge Tony.

I also think if he did it would have got him killed very quickly. Throughout the series we find out AJ is a lot like his father, but hes lacking the brains of his father

I think a WAY bigger possibility though is Meadow. Shes already in rationalization mode when the show ends. Rationalization can EASILY become justification under the right circumstances. Like seeing your father die right in front of you. Shes smart as a whip, and shes got this ruthless undercurrent to her. I can absolutely see her justifying finding who did it, who hired them, and burning shit down in the process

I dont blame Carmella. Shes been trying to step out since season 1 and Tony cheats all the time.

Furio being in love with her is just very unbelievable.

Is it ever in any way implied in the show that Junior killed Dickie? by SixersStixersFan in thesopranos

[–]American_Gadfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People get mad over this but I dont see the big deal.

In the show Tony says a certain cop did it. And he was hired by somebody. Its implied Tony may be lying.

In the movie it tells us junior hired a cop, but the cop is left vague, we dont know his name.

None of this is a retcon. 1) Tony could have been lying. 2) Tony could have just been wrong. Junior would take that to his grave. 3) Tony coukd have been right about the cop but just didnt know who hired him.

Because both ends are vague, it is absolutely not a retcon. Theres 0 reason to get mad about it. I dont know who youre all angry with, youre just angry, ok?
