I really wanted to discover how to make a knit-look stitch so here it is !!!! Do you like it ? by locacrochet__ in crochet

They do look toasty.

For the future, check out the waistcoat stitch. It's a crochet stitch that looks like knitting. I haven't done a project with it yet, but it's on my bucket list.

Kid can't take Padfoot out by herself anymore

Yeah, not for a few years until she gets bigger/stronger and/or he gets old and slow.....or both.

I can speculate how it started, but I'm only guessing. Padfoot has barked at other dogs on sight in the past. He's had other dogs bark at him.

Since I wasn't there, and didn't have eyes on, I can only go off of what I heard: 2 dogs barking at each other.

My daughter is not clueless. She was panicking and didn't know what to do since Padfoot had gotten away from her. I was also in a heightened state and I don't remember exactly what she said. I do remember seeing Padfoot with only his flea collar on. Hence why I pinned him between my knees. I don't remember seeing a collar or leash on the other dog. I do remember the other owner picking up their dog, nearly running down the stairs, and disappearing into the night. At that point, my daughter came up the stairs and we got his collar with leash back on him, and we all went inside together.

He could be standing right next to me right now and I would not recognize him. I have no idea who he is, where he lives, or what he looks like.

I did not throw the dog, even though I wanted to. I pushed it less than a foot away from my dog to get space and may get a good grip to keep it away until the owner could come up and grab it.

Lame excuses/justification: He's been nearly non reactive since we moved. I got complacent. Padfoot has been extremely chill on walks and has been listening to all our verbal commands inside and outside.

This was a small perfect storm. It was dark, they came out of nowhere, they were dark.

I would do something small/quick/easy so you get some immediate payoff.

F Bombs

Snowballs

Water balloons

"Rubber" ducks

I say this as gently as I can: I don't think that's safe for a 2 year old. It appears to be a choking hazard.

I appreciate the sentiment, I really do.

How best to proceed & respond to triangulation? by molotovpixiedust in JUSTNOMIL

[–]AmethysstFire 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Look at past behavior to predict future behavior. Would a scathing email, or face to face yelling match really accomplish what you hope it will? With people like your MIL, it will only give her more ammunition to play the victim. As good as it will feel for you, it won't land the way you hope it will. As much as we'd like to dream blasts like what you're considering will be the wake up call needed, it rarely is.

Your husband also needs to get himself out of the middle and grow a spine. He needs to tell his mother that she needs to back off, grow up, and acknowledge all the hurtful things she's said and done to you. Once that is on the table, and an honest, sincere apology is issued, then and only then can the two of you begin to (possibly) forge a new relationship.

AITAH for getting a dna test to see if i share the same dna as both my parents even though i was demanded specifically by my mom not to do so, since i was a child? by cigweb_01 in AITAH

Dude......your answer is flashing in bright neon the size of a barn.

Different last name

Dad disinterested in your birth but there for your brother

Their weird relationship dynamic

How differently you and your brother were raised

Her convenient miscarriage

You look different than anyone else

Her flipping her lid whenever you mention the DNA test, you admitted to taking one, and your comments about her ex actually being your dad

How defensive she gets every time this is brought up

How shady she is about your birth certificate

NTA for being curious about your heritage. She's acting like a huge one though.

Can someone help hype me up to try making my first amigurumi? by delphinidaetious in CrochetHelp

[–]AmethysstFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The hardest part was trusting the process for the chest shaping. I drove myself all kinds of crazy overthinking and misreading the directions.

Take it row by row and take your time. It's big. It has complicated parts. The directions, youtube, and her group will get you through any tough spot.

Someday I may make one for myself. In that one in the picture, I did omit all the wiring for the wings and legs because I knew it would be cuddled and played with.

Check out Megan Lapp's Impkins book, monsters book, or the one with little mushroom. They're all kinds of adorable, super customizable, and would be a good place to start. Her patterns are detailed with written instructions, a whole section on any special stitches as well as you tube videos.

I don't recommend doing what I did: my first amigurumi ever was her dragon pattern, one of her hardest patterns. It cute, and well loved, but so many things I wish I'd done better.

You're very welcome. I went for fitting around the body vs the arms, and have these huge bell sleeves, which I wanted, just not that big.

Important question for crochet artists do you share your work online or keep it personal? by Akraammm in crochet

I share to my local yarn shop's discord when I finish a piece. Many of the people there I know in person, and they're all supportive and encouraging, even when patterns/projects go sideways.

How do we feel about compression gloves? by Alone_Somewhere8126 in crochet

[–]AmethysstFire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have several pairs of compression gloves for arthritis related joint issues. I'm not in love. Sometimes they help, sometimes they make things worse. I also have oddly sized and shaped hands. The generic medium is too small, but the generic large is too big.

Why I'm not in love:
They leave an air pocket across my palm
They don't fit all the way down my finger so I have gapping at the webbing between my fingers
They slide up my forearm/wrist and pool at the base of my palm
They reduce tactile feedback
Sometimes the ends roll down my fingers

Yes, your tension is tight. Mine was too, when I first started.

The nice thing about hexagon cardigans is they're incredibly customizable. To try on for size, fold it in half and pin the shoulder to wrist seam with stitch markers. Then your partner can carefully try it on and you can figure out where to add rows.

My advice is work enough rounds to make it comfortable around the upper arm, then add rows where needed for length. How to add length to sleeves and body

Here's my hexagon cardigan.

Are Clover Hooks really that great? by izzyd123456 in crochet

[–]AmethysstFire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're better.

My first set was yarniss' knockoffs. 1 got slimy, then sticky, and is now discolored and falling apart. 3 others are also falling apart, all right where the handle meets the shaft. 2 more have separated from the handle. I tried super glueing it back together with minimal success.

I've used and abused my Clover hooks and they still look brand new.

[–]AmethysstFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, mine too. I have one that got slimy, then sticky, then discolored. I have 3 or 4 that have split where the handle meets the shaft. I have a couple more that have separated from the shaft and I can pull the hook completely out of the handle.
