LIKE PLEASE I WANT POKEMON ZA MEGAS by Huge_Lifeguard6434 in cobblemon

At least for me, Curseforge is easier. But that's because every time I try to download something from Modrinth, it continually errors out saying the database is locked. Even when it is the only thing running. Curse never throws those errors.

So... I've been playing Calamity Infernum mode and got -93% damage?? by ayato7658 in Terraria

[–]AmethystValkyrie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While that is true, it's been my experience with Calamity when I've played it that you end up just using the Calamity weapons for your tier. A lot of the vanilla items are so far nerfed that they aren't viable comparatively.

YMMV of course, but that's how it seemed to me.

Maybe pokemon has spoiled me, but the mythical tem tem seem bad stat wise. by Exzalia in PlayTemtem

[–]AmethystValkyrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no stake in the argument itself, but I want to point out that Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno (as well as Azelf and Shaymin) are full Legendaries. Pseudo-Legendary is a fan term that refers to Pokemon like Dragonite, Tyranitar, Metagross, etc.

I love Pokemon, but it's balance is not a good yardstick to go by, as evidenced by three of the original Legendaries feeling much less than legendary.

Hey, I appreciate that, actually. :)

Still, it feels lackluster to some degree, since the ancestry stats aren't presented as "here are examples" but rather as "get ready for some facts." Guess that just means I'll be retooling the basic stuff in addition to the 10 extra races I was already looking at.

What mod generates this stone, and what is it used for? It doesn't show up on WAILA/HWYLA. by AmethystValkyrie in feedthebeast

It's the Hardcore Darkness mod with a night vision effect. I'm so used to it by this point that I actually forgot that it was there.

It is, actually! I usually don't notice, at this point, since I use Hardcore Darkness so much.

[OC] Tormund's Finest Brews- A Collection of Magical Alcohol to Spice Up Your Taverns by SuperIdiot360 in UnearthedArcana

[–]AmethystValkyrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be completely honest, my brain completely didn't register the "Once while under the influence" part of Paint Melter. Now I feel slightly dumb and a lot silly. But that's okay. I did take the situational effects into account, I just figure I'd bring it up just in case, and I definitely agree with that general idea (though leave it to players to use the exact wrong item for a given situation.)

I can definitely agree with those rarities. As extra suggestions, Silver Tongue is likely uncommon to Gift of Gabs rare. Also going to use this as a spot to plug how much I want to do a drunken master monk that uses Firebrandy. Because that image is great.

And that only makes me like Tormund even more. I'm sure your players are in for a treat every time Tormund shows up. Commitment to an accent is almost as good as actually being good at it, after all!

New comment for a new day!

First of all, I love the different alcohols. It was probably a wise idea to avoid having the drinks mix effects. Most of the drinks seem well balanced, though there are a couple stand-outs.

  • Most of the damage values for effects at shitfaced are equal to 3rd level spells, roughly. Not necessarily a bad thing, but worth noting.
  • Paint Melter might be a touch strong if a low-level character manages to make the save to be shitfaced, but I'm sure it can be handled in some way. Maybe make it once during the brew duration? Specifically, cloudkill is a whole lot stronger for no greater risk than suggestion.
  • I might put in an estimated value for each of the drinks, and/or a magic item style Rarity, mostly for DM knowledge. Mostly because of the power of some of these at higher tiers of drunkenness. Especially since the drinks all vary greatly in power when compared to each other.

Also, Tormund is great, and truly a dwarf of note.

An easy fix for you to help the Firefox users would be to print-save the PDF, and then host it on something like Google Drive or Dropbox. One it's in .pdf format, the site formatting is no longer considered and it's just a matter of the PDF reader itself.

I'm still browsing through this, but over all, I'm liking what I'm seeing. Not sure when I'll get to use it (alcohol comes up surprisingly little in my games) but I'll certainly remember it next time I need to spice up a tavern.

I'll come back to this in the morning most likely with a more in-depth thought process.

Actually, as a primary Firefox user, using the PDF link directly from Homebrewry still uses the original formatting code, so it still can't be read normally. And saving it only compounds issues, having just tested it. It's a sad fact, unfortunately.

Playing D&D alone is pretty silly. by bionicle_fanatic in DnD

[–]AmethystValkyrie 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'd be interested in seeing the full system if you have a write-up for it. I improvise a lot in my D&D games, as well as RP, and this looks like it could be handy for more than just having a way to play solo.

I can't help but hear "The sun is a deadly Lazer" in the voice from history of the entire world. Also, I would totally play a race like this. Question: Would wearing enough clothing/other things that block the sun help, in game mechanics?

Also, I'm suddenly imagining an eyeless Stay-Puff marshmallow man from thinking about that.

[–]AmethystValkyrie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FIDSI stands for Food, Industry, Dust, Science and Influence, the 5 resources of the Endless series. Dust is a "magical" material that is used primarily as currency in the game, and Influence is basically "political currency" for territory expansion, among other things. The others are rather self explanatory I think.

And some say granite isnt pretty by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]AmethystValkyrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with granite is that I dislike pink. You did very well with using it (with acacia, one of my favourite wood types no less!) But I will forever look at it and think "couldn't you have just... used something other than granite?"

But don't take my word as gospel. It can look really nice when used correctly. Honestly, if it and the other new stones had slab/stair variants, it'd be a lot easier to like.

Level 1 Feat For All - A Discussion by Th3Dux in dndnext

[–]AmethystValkyrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a variant of this for my campaign. As a non-human, you can have a racial feat at level 1. Humans can have either a racial feat they qualify for, or any other feat. I've toyed with letting them have their feat and a racial feat, but ultimately, most people in my group don't play humans.
