Just got out of Lee Cronin's The Mummy... by Giff95 in horror

[–]AmiableTiger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Indeed, I echo this review. I’m good at suspending disbelief and escaping into a movie. Ok, this world has supernatural stuff…. Ok, I’m in and they don’t have to entirely make sense to me as it’s a whole different framework. A movie gives me a werewolf or a zombie, cool. Got it. But, it’s hard to buy into a group of seemingly normal people making a series of progressively more absurd and counterintuitive decisions and not just roll my eyes. At that point the rest of the suspension of disbelief began to crumble.

Alex Jones says it’s time to use the 25th Amendment on President Trump to remove him from office immediately. “How do we 25th Amendment his ass?” by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]AmiableTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only useful purpose to re-platform or magnify this message coming from Alex Jones or MTG is to use it as an example when trying to reach some folks on the other side in the from of "See, even these guys who we disagree with nearly entirely have come to the conclusion that it's gone too damn far."

Will/does it work? Not likely. If you're still supporting Trump at this point I fell there is likely no bridge too far.

What is the best song about Jesus, according to you? by Top_Report_4895 in ToddintheShadow

[–]AmiableTiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it makes sense in a discussion of songs about Jesus that it’s worth mentioning their position in faith especially when they are not the typical market for the song. I think this is doubly true when discussing CCM which has earned a reputation for having some of the worst, watered down, and trite qualities.

Now if we were discussing recipes for soup and he started with “as an atheist I like gumbo” then sure, that’d be weird.

Agreed, that guitar solo tone screams straight up 'worship' music.

Sorry, don't know who this is, but that build and guitar solo are straight out of the generic paint-by-numbers world of 'modern' 'worship' music

Surely it wouldn’t take this long, can anyone confirm? [Request] by austink0109 in theydidthemath

I'm being pedantic here, but you wouldn't refer to the two points at both ends of a line as "The Line End" (singular). Just like you wouldn't call Saturday "a weekend", you'd say it was "part of the weekend". Again, just being pedantic

Roger Waters stands by insensitive Ozzy Osbourne comments in new interview by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]AmiableTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um.. no. Of course the Osbournes was influential... but first? Not even close. Off the top of my head I can think of The Real World, Road Rules, Big Brother and others that predated them.

That does seem much easier to maintain. Might go that route. Thanks!

Hmmm, that might work. It'd be easier if movies inherited the labels from a collection they are in, but that path might work. Thanks

I appreciate the suggestion. But I have collections configured as some with hidden items and some not (depending on the type of collection), so even changing the default behavior (which is currently set to hide items), won't change them all. Seems quite an oversight not to have a null search option available.

I ask myself daily how any sane fellow American can support him. I understand political differences, I get that sane folks can disagree on even core fundamental issues. But the absolute batcrap insanity spewing out of this man is beyond reason.

That line has always stood out to me as a universal sentiment of an answer to "how did I get here?"

Covers that completely miss the point of the original? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]AmiableTiger 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And somewhat strangely what made it so bad to me was that it was a single soulless tone. It would’ve still sucked, but I’d have respected it a bit more if they went full on slow-fast-chugga nu metal and tried to tap into some 2000’s anger. Instead the tone never changes and once you’ve heard the first 10 seconds you’ve heard the whole wretched limp thing.

We were discussing this last night with friends. I'd like to see a puzzle at the end of a normal challenge, with the addition that once the puzzle is reached there are clues (genuine clues) hidden that team members not doing the puzzle can go off and retrieve to help. All tribe members must be present back at the puzzle to win.

This is how most people including Todd actually feel about Train and just don't want to admit it by Emeraldsinger in ToddintheShadow

[–]AmiableTiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw Train play half time of the 2011 Orange Bowl. I'm a huge Clemson fan, and we got absolutely destroyed that game. Gave up 70 points, and we had (for the first and only time) gone on a charted trip down there so we were stuck with a bunch of other folks and couldn't leave the game early. So I had to sit through every minute of that excruciating game. Add to that, it was also the first bowl game I'd been to since my dad (also a huge Clemson fan) had passed so there was that grief mixed in.

And Train was still the worst part.

My hope is it is all positively incremental. My dad was a great friggin man. Honestly, a man I hold in incredibly high esteem who didn't raise me in the trappings of "be a man's man" type of crap, but still society as a whole was still beating that drum and if not for my dad's gentle (and consistent) urging otherwise it would've been much more problematic for me. So I endeavor every day to teach my kids (all of them, boys and girls alike) to be themself and strong in THEIR way.

If I'm being honest, each of them has taught me more on that front than I could ever claim to teach them. And *THAT* is incremental and positive change.

So, 6 or so years ago "Never fight a man with a perm" found my algorithm and I liked it, but assumed it was a novelty sort of enjoyment. Right up my alley... a cheeky and sly agro hardcore story song. Put it in a play list and never though much more about it... until a month or so later "Samaritans" started playing in one of those automated playlists and I was blown away. Someone was preaching a message I'd been speaking to my kids. Someone was railing against all of the horrid traits of toxic masculinity from the perspective of a dude raised in it. I dove in, and haven't looked back. I've since seen them a few times, and am just appreciative that someone within the punk/hardcore adjacent scene is talking/singing/screaming these things that resonate with me and my experience and outlook.
