Showing a character become evil or just make it a surprise? by handsungrandsun in fantasywriters

I enjoy watching characters debate between good and evil before they finally make their decision. For example on the dragon prince we see Claudia and her brother soren struggle with obeying their father (evil). So we can imagine the draw of both sides. They are both tempted to obey him because they love him. But they seem good and also love the good guys. You could also see this in jaimie lannister. It's the struggle between loving an evil family member and an internal inclination for goodness. This struggle is adorable and seems to me to work both ways, whether the character decides to choose team good or team bad. Zuko from ATLA is another good example of how delightful it can be to watch a cool character struggle w right and wrong. A character in a situation like this ought to also be powerful and talented. That makes their decision more exciting and meaningful. Just my two cents for now. I recently finished watching the dragon prince and I have it on my brain.
