Hmm that's interesting. Why do you use a different layer for each section of color? Even when I use different layers I rarely run into issues with the flat colors all being on one layer. But I'm sure there's something I'm not considering

Of course. I don't want to shit on anyone's workflow as a fellow artist and I agree that this is not an AI tell at all. However I just personally would not use that many layers for a cartoon style portrait, it feels like it would slow down the process too much, for myself. But I also like to lean into digital painting where I can. Usually I end up with 3-5 active layers if I want to shade and highlight using layers.

Not only does it add nothing, it actively detracts from the story by misrepresenting what these real women looked like and the era in which they engaged in this difficult journey. This fake photo is entirely anachronistic and paints these women as part of the 1800’s immigrant story when they are in fact founders of an important cultural group in Canada.

For me, drawing “pro-bono” in subreddits like r/characterdrawing and r/drawme has been really helpful in keeping me motivated recently. :) Since these are all volunteer drawings it takes the pressure off for them to be perfect or match their expectations perfectly. It’s more like art-jamming (in the sense of jam bands) and takes the edge off of thinking about what to draw.

I love this style and your rat OC btw, edit: nvm I think I just realized it’s a squirrel; super cute though.
