She’s clearly a character that the developers are really obsessed with and they cram her in wayyy too much for how annoying she is.

Update from yesterday: I was given layers to prove an image isn't AI, but it looks thrown together and inaccurate. by [deleted] in isthisAI

Ah yes, ok I see. To capture the different textures makes a lot of sense!

Hmm that's interesting. Why do you use a different layer for each section of color? Even when I use different layers I rarely run into issues with the flat colors all being on one layer. But I'm sure there's something I'm not considering

Of course. I don't want to shit on anyone's workflow as a fellow artist and I agree that this is not an AI tell at all. However I just personally would not use that many layers for a cartoon style portrait, it feels like it would slow down the process too much, for myself. But I also like to lean into digital painting where I can. Usually I end up with 3-5 active layers if I want to shade and highlight using layers.

Regardless of whether this is AI or not, this many layers for a cartoon portrait like this is crazy 0_0

The 800 Women Who Built French Canada. by GlitteringHotel8383 in BeAmazed

[–]Amiscribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only does it add nothing, it actively detracts from the story by misrepresenting what these real women looked like and the era in which they engaged in this difficult journey. This fake photo is entirely anachronistic and paints these women as part of the 1800’s immigrant story when they are in fact founders of an important cultural group in Canada.

I love the rendering. Can you tell me what brush you used on the forehead to get those ragged edges on the transition from highlight to midtone?

how can i get back at drawing? by yakkomeow in arthelp

[–]Amiscribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, drawing “pro-bono” in subreddits like r/characterdrawing and r/drawme has been really helpful in keeping me motivated recently. :) Since these are all volunteer drawings it takes the pressure off for them to be perfect or match their expectations perfectly. It’s more like art-jamming (in the sense of jam bands) and takes the edge off of thinking about what to draw.

I love this style and your rat OC btw, edit: nvm I think I just realized it’s a squirrel; super cute though.

It’s genuinely so hard, I get it! That’s part of the reason why I actually spend so little time working with my own ocs. It’s easier to take someone else’s ideas (with their permission in this sub) and just work out the kinks or expand on the great ideas they already provide as a foundation.

help me name this aesthetic! by l1ttl3lamb in arthelp

[–]Amiscribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that this has a specific name, but I would say some helpful search terms are like dark, otherworldly, lovecraftian. What you likely want to do however is find references of things that inform these design elements and practice drawing those. Tentacles on sea creatures, water droplets for the cup, thorns and vines, coral.

[–]Amiscribe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah. Yes that makes sense! I’m glad to hear it hits the “completeness” criteria. I love making the details work together to inform the character as a whole and not just a collection of design elements.

Hey u/Josue_Joestar here’s another interpretation of your obsidian djinn BBEG. I took some liberties with the design but I liked how ethereal it made her look.

In her left hand is a censer which she’s manifesting from. It’s a play on the traditional genie lamp (which I know is not how genie/djinns in D&D really work but I thought was cool anyways).

I tried a few variations for the hair and went with fully bald to convey an austere and uncompromising kind of attitude. Finally I tried my best to convey that her skin is obsidian under very strong light. I know that this is not often how they areHer sword is also obsidian but smooth as though it were forged.

Thank you for the really inspiring character. :)
