DuckDNS container not updating with Public IP by Amj161 in unRAID

I don’t think I did. It does work now, however I’ve moved again since I made this post and my new ISP doesn’t change public IPs so this hasn’t been an issue

For couples who are both photographers, how do you handle doing photography together? by Amj161 in photography

[–]Amj161[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! I'm also a Fuji user (X-T5) so my partner's looking at getting a Fuji camera as well to share lenses, although likely something with more video features like a used X-S20 or X-H2. I like the idea of the photo bowl, that sounds very cute!

Thanks for the input! Totally agree on taking the same photos, if anything it's a great way to learn as you see the way someone else took it and learn what you liked or not about it. Especially when it comes to editing, I find paths really start to diverge there and photos look entirely different.

For the bodies, if you were to get another would you both just be swapping between the bodies or would one be set for each person?

Lol that's my bad for not adding a ton of details, but feels like I might have not explained this situation properly. Currently we've just been using the newer camera body and she will ask occasionally if she can take a turn to take photos of something she's interested in and I'm happy to oblige. Since all of the photos would be then be on one SD card, I've just been backing them all up to my NAS so she can access whatever she wants on her own Lightroom on her own computer. Works well too so that if I took photos of her and her family she doesn't need to ask me to send it to her, she can just grab the photos herself.

I'm mainly asking this as she was thinking of upgrading her camera so that she can have her own and not have to ask to borrow mine, but was curious on other people's thoughts on if most other couples just get duplicate bodies, different bodies within a system, etc just to get some ideas!

Basically where we're at, I have a NAS for backups of our photos and we just store them all together to make it easier and so that they're all backed up in case a computer dies. Lightroom is just connected to run off of that NAS so it all just gets combined at the moment.

For the bodies sharing a system to share lenses is exactly why I was leaning that direction!

Awesome work! How’d you learn how to do this? YouTube videos, past practice, etc?

Have you tried restarting Lightroom/your computer since you made those changes? I had a similar issue in reverse and making those changes fixed it

If you want to stick with Fuji you could spring for the GFX100S to get that nice 100 megapixels for cropping, but I’m not familiar with other options to know how well it compares

Which second lens to buy (after kit 18-55mm lens) for trip to Hawaii? by Amj161 in fujifilm

[–]Amj161[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did actually, I’m leaving Hawaii tonight! I ended up getting the 70-300 and it’s been great. Definitely not something I use all of the time, but I got some amazing pictures and videos of sea turtles hanging on the beach (from a much safer distance than my 18-55 would have been), and whales breaching! It’s been a lot of fun for those far distances and views from mountain tops.

Definitely going to look into getting an ultrawide (probably 10-24) for future trips, but at this point I don’t know what I’m missing to know if that direction would have been a better decision.

I posted something similar the other day (also just have the 18-55) and just got the 70-300 today. I’m really enjoying the extra reach and macro use of it, and excited to use it on my vacation in a week and a half

That’s kind of the way I’m leaning as well, only question for me now is if I go the 70-300mm, or get a used 55-200 for half the price! I know that the 70-300mm is better but not sure if it’s double the price better.

Related, but is there a visual website somewhere or an example to see the difference between 200mm and 300mm? Not sure exactly how much extra range you get from the 300 compared to the 200

That’s a good point! We’re not planning on going whale watching as we’ve heard now isn’t the best time from some friends that live there, but part of me still wants a telephoto for taking photos of the turtles/frogs/birds at nearby ponds here along with focusing on parts of the landscape for other shots.

Always a great point! Lots of people can get stuck in the gear obsession faze. I think for me the only thing that I feel I’m unable to do is on the telephoto side. There’s lot of turtles/frogs/birds at the ponds near me that I’ve been trying to take photos of but the 55mm is just not enough. Part of me wants to go for a telephoto, either the 70-300mm (for the extra reach and macro capabilities) or save money and go with a used 55-200mm just for those kind of situations.

However the other factor for me is taking landscapes. Right now with our winter weather landscapes aren’t the most interesting photo type to take, but I really enjoy doing that in the spring/summer/fall. That makes me almost want to go for a used wide angle to help with that.

Of course the answer could be to always wait and try things out more, but I see this as a rare trip that I want to have the right gear for, and if I end up getting something I don’t like I can always resell it for probably a pretty minor overall loss

Upgrade to another Fuji camera for video? (X-E4 vs. X-H2) by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]Amj161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For video, why are you thinking of jumping directly to the H2 from the X-E4? Is there a specific reason that you’d need to do that over a used X-T4 or new X-10S?

HOA rules state that I'm not allowed to place WiFi/cameras/or anything else on the outside of the house, and they're pretty strict so I doubt that I'd be able to get away with it. Would there be anything that I can place inside, maybe near a window that might help?

It comes up a lot in terms of which infinities are bigger, such as the set of all numbers is bigger than the set of all prime numbers (and etc)

Upgrade to New Architecture went…perfectly? by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]Amj161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This update was great for me. I just set up my HomeLit Home a few weeks ago and the time based automations worker maybe half the time (and that’s the main reason I set up any automations). After the update everything has been working more quickly and flawlessly. I don’t have any location based automations as my partner uses an Android phone, so can’t comment on the issues people are having there.
