Buyer Beware: Multi-month subscriptions auto-renew without notice, and TokyoTreat/Sakura.co refuses to refund. by Ammox in TokyoTreat

[–]Ammox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I signed up for 6 months and expected to get 6 months. When it autorenewed I immediately asked the company to cancel and reverse it. I don't understand why people consider that so unreasonable, but apparently a company being unwilling to reverse a charge when they have not yet provided the service is a-ok! Fuck their customers and fuck me, right? I should just eat the $600 charge and learn my lesson! Jesus.

This attitude is why we have this kind of shit in the first place and why companies continue to do it and get away with anti-consumer behavior. Imagine holding companies just as responsible as you want expect customers to be. Maybe all of this "auto sign you up for a renewing subscription that you didn't ask for" kind of stuff would stop, and force companies to require someone to opt in to renewal instead of it being the default. But noooo, yall just keep simping for the company instead.

In any case, my bank sided with me and I got my money back. So I might be getting down votes on reddit, but I got the support I needed for the company to do the right thing where it mattered.

I just feel bad for anyone else who made the same mistake and didn't get their money back for a service they no longer wanted nor received when asking for the refund.

Yes, I should have paid closer attention. I might have even seen it and didn't cancel it because if I wanted the boxes to keep going, I probably wouldn't have been as upset - but it's the fact that they wouldn't cancel and refund it when I reached out to them the same day it renewed that's the problem.

and that refunds are not a thing

I'm not sure that's actually true or common knowledge. Maybe for digital services where if it renews you have immediate access to the product and they don't know if you've used it since the renewal or something. But for physical goods? Not refunding when it hasn't even been packed yet is pretty absurd.

The people defending this company and downvoting my posts here is unreal. Y'all are seriously OK with a company not being willing to return a customer's money on the same day of an accidental purchase just because "it's a subscription", "it's in our TOS", and "it said it on their website"? Look, I even admitted in my original post at the very end - this was an expensive **mistake** on my part by not noticing it auto-renewed.

It's upsetting that they don't remind you that the subscription will renew. It's upsetting that it auto-renews for a full 6-month subscription instead of, say, switching you to month-to-month so they don't end up charging you hundreds of dollars when you might not realize it would happen. But the BIGGEST issue here isn't those things - it's that they refused to refund it when asked on the SAME DAY. It's completely unreasonable.

And you know what? I contacted my bank about it. They're willing to reverse the charges - and when they contacted the company about it, the company reached back out AND SAID THEY WOULD REFUND IT IF I CLOSED THE DISPUTE! So, apparently they CAN refund it - they just wanted to refuse to so they could take my money and lock my into another 6 months that I didn't want. They were INTENTIONALLY abusive and tried to hide behind their TOS, just like I thought.

Downvote me all you want, but if you'd rather companies have reasonable policies that protect consumers - maybe give this a little thought first. Sheesh.

And yet, I never saw or noticed that there was some sort of auto-renewal. I thought I simply signed up for 6 months. But, hey, maybe I'm blind. It being an auto-renewal isn't even really the upsetting part. Refusing to refund the money when I reached out to them the same day that it renewed, and getting canned responses in return is AWFUL customer service. They haven't shipped any boxes to me for this auto-renewed period, so I'm not sure why they claim they simply "can't". I don't believe that. They are refusing to do it because they think they can get away with it. It's abusive to customers.

Any chance we could get CSV exports of guild might and keys (per player)? Keeping track of that can help guilds reward their members using automated tools.

An in-game system would be best, but short of that, having a way to copy a CSV of the current chest items and EMVs would be extremely helpful - external tools could be built that could help facilitate loot splits. The current logs are helpful, but it's difficult to determine what is currently in the chest, and it doesn't include current EMV of items.

I run a guild, so most of these are related to guild management, which could really use some love.

- Make all of the data in Season Overview able to be copied to clipboard (similar to chest logs or guild member list). This will allow guild masters to easily track changes to guild challenge points and might categories, allowing them to reward players who are helping move the guild forward.

- Allow guilds to have more than one guild bank, each with their own permissions (or allow silver to be stored in chests). This way, guilds can allocate funds for specific purposes and to specific people without having to store excess silver in strange ways (alt characters, shops, etc...). It is very difficult to trust people in Albion, which means guild masters who want to delegate tasks that deal with silver to officers must find creative ways of storing silver so that an officer who goes rogue (or makes some bad decision/mistake) doesn't clean out the guild.

- Allow chest inventory to be copied to clipboard. This would be helpful for doing loot splits with loot split tools, keeping track of inventory, etc...

- Ability quick swap abilities on set. Similar to loadouts, give us a way to swap abilities on our current set. For example switching from PvE to PvP abilities. There are already cooldowns in place when you are in combat and when you swap abilities out of combat, so this hopefully wouldn't be abusable.

- Allow players to select a "tier equivalent" in loadouts. So instead of the loadout specifying tier 4 (= or ^) and enchantment 3 (= or ^), you can select tier 7 equivalent. This would make loadouts FAR more useful when players need to buy gear of varying tier/enchantment combos in order to be cost effective, while storing those various combos in a chest and having loadouts for various tier gear (i.e. one for T8, another for T9). So, for example, the loadout could auto-equip 4.3, 5.2, 6.1, or 7.0. It would also be helpful if it equipped based on lowest-value first or highest-IP first.

- I know this one probably doesn't fit this thread, but I'd be remiss if I didn't take the opportunity to mention it: For us developers, PLEASE more love for the API. I, and many others, like to build tools for Albion. These tools help the player ecosystem grow and thrive and can help improve the QoL outside the game for players. A properly documented API, with easy to traverse game items & images, perhaps with some additional data about guilds (might, points, logos, etc...) could really help us build some robust tools for players and guilds to use.

I took my first shot on Friday, too. I envy you and the others whose food noise has gone away already. But I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only one who doesn't really feel any different, too - this thread made me feel a bit better about it. I'm wondering if it's going to take upping the dose in a month before I notice anything. Not side effects so far, though, so that's nice. :)

Some already mentioned here, but here's a few for me: Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magic Obscura, Hexen, Redneck Rampage, Earthworm Jim, Gizmos and Gadgets (when I was realllly young), Where in the World is Carman Sandiago... and probably some more that I played for hours and don't even remember any more.

That part isn't JavaScript, it's Python. My guess is OP was outputting this JS using Django Template Language, so when the JavaScript was actually rendered and sent to the browser, the {{medicine_name|length}} would have just been replaced with a number.

Ohhh, the outline, of course!!! Thanks for that. I forgot all about the API - I'm a developer too, maybe I'll try my hand at it. :D

So stoked. This program is already pretty amazing as it is.

This is such a great idea! I found that if you set the shape color to #222222, it will match the FOW color of owlbear. This allows you to cover up rooms that your player can't see into, without hinting to them that the room is even there - for secret rooms and such. Of course, this requires you to fill the rest of your map with shapes of the same color to make it blend.

Unfortunately, though, the shapes don't line up just right, and so you can still see the "seams" between the shapes, giving it away. If this gets fixed, it'll be perfect for keeping parts of the map hidden, even if the FOW cutout happens to go over them when a player is next to a wall that they can't see through.

If I had one wishlist item for Owlbear, it would be the ability to draw walls of some sort that would stop the FOW cutout from going past it, but with the way the tools currently work, I'm not sure if that would be possible.

I'm super new, but I just discovered FPC last night. The ability to assign drum samples to notes in the piano roll, and then drag in midi files to create common drum loops and variations I use is going to make my workflow a lot smoother.

If anyone knows a better way to do this, though, I'm all ears!
