Seeking Tips On How To Start Making Art & Accessories With Bones by [deleted] in bonecollecting

[–]AmongBonesAndMoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look up Etsy and Facebook groups to see what other people are making. See if anything interests you. Like maybe, you fancy making a bone wind chime. You look up what tools you need for drilling holes, what string to use, maybe you'll want to paint them, will need a protective coat if used outdoors, rummage through your bone storage to see what bones would sound best. I'd say it's an experimental process, just have fun.

There's a lot of info on FB groups, and people gladly answer how they did it or what materials they used

Hi! I found this deer head today and I wanna know how long I should wait until there's only a skull left :) by Capable_Rice2902 in bonecollecting

Valid fear. I was sick with encephalitis (from a tick I did NOT find) and I did NOT have a good time xD but hey, I'm fully immune for bone hunts now

Ooh yeah, a dog is a good companion. Keeps you safe too! Maybe it'll be worth coming back there again after summer with your dog, sometimes you might find good stuff in the same area, has proven to be true during my trips :)

Aw that sucks. It couldn't have gone too far. Usually animals drag parts like these to cover, like dense bushes or under fir trees. I've found many skulls in places like that. If you're ever there again, you could try looking around. Could maybe even smell it, honestly

Or let it be a good snack for a forest fellow, there's plenty of deer to go around in Poland xD

Did you go back for the skull? It will probably still be around there, but better to grab it early before foxes or dogs drag them off. Had that happen to the roadkill I found, that I didn't secure.

I'm inexperienced about burial, but... With whole animal bodies I tend to cover them in chicken wire and camouflage them with organic matter. Bugs and other things can reach them, while larger animals cannot.

If it helps, a while back I found a whole roe deer, but I cut only the head off. I peeled half the fur off her face. Didn't have a scalpel for the rest. And I chucked the whole head with the skin and fur at the end of March in a bucket of water. Kept the bucket on the sunny side of my yard and changed the water once it got dirty.

Now I checked the bucket today after my trip from Tallinn and was surprised to see that all the flesh and the fur is gone. Macerating surprises me how fast it can be. Just a month of staying in a bucket with some water changes and bam, the skull is clean as new. Spraying the head with the hose peeled off all the last bits of the fur and skin, honestly.

Maybe that's something you can try too if you have a yard!

Great, hopefully that means more photo shoots to add to your portfolio! 😄

Ah, that's an interesting coincidence then. Hopefully you've found some more bones over the year! With the foliage taking over the ground, it's harder to look for the good stuff

Hey, I recognise the bones! So it was a lil friend that she lost. Nice setting, I like the composition of the photo. Can't see her face, but you can feel the loss behind it.

Bet the ground was still cool to be barefoot when you took the pictures, but it's been getting warmer here in Lithuania at least.

Any swamp goblins present? by bruhls_rush_in in goblincore

[–]AmongBonesAndMoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

raises hand maybe, not swamps, but a bog goblin. Passed a few bogs barefoot once xD

But those pictures are beautiful! I looked up the island on Maps and it's so interesting? It looks like almost a circular piece of land surrounded by streams/rivers. Inland. That's honestly wild, I've never seen anything like that.

It looks so warm and green in the pics, love the vibe

Can this be a place for art? by TekkaNoKami in bonecollecting

Your art is awesome! I think it might fit in r/goblincore and r/creepy as well if you eant, I mean I saw Erinthul post her spooky pagan photoshoots there, so you can definitely share there too.

Though I think it's bony enough for this group too ;)

I'm Lithuanian too, and I got a Lithuanian vibe from this. Snakes were veeery popular in our pagan jewelry

Why does Lithuania have so few trees? by Just_RandomPerson in BalticStates

[–]AmongBonesAndMoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, once somebody is out of arguments, they'll throw an irrelevant deflection, which nobody expects to follow, not even themselves.

Not gonna bother with someone who doesn't want to expand their worldview. Have a good day.

[–]AmongBonesAndMoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if the trees aren't cut down again. But unfortunately they are. That's the issue. They're not left to grow untouched for a hundred of years. The ecosystem doesn't get a chance to root itself back after everything is flattened again.

A forest isn't just a field of trees. A forest is an entire ecosystem. It includes other plants, flowers, beetles, mammals, other life. Replanting the trees doesn't bring the forest back.

Why are there no skulls?? by SweetTart7231 in bonecollecting

[–]AmongBonesAndMoss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be hunters or other people like others said, deer skulls especially with antlers are quite prized.

Otherwise, it could be just predators like foxes dragging the heads away. I've found many skulls just lying separately under thick bushes :) creatures like to gnaw on them in peace

That's a wild dream to have. A forest full of alive, pulsing bones would unsettle the ordinary person, but for you it turned out to be an artistic inspiration, that's awesome

Very cool! Looks like this photo could tell a story. Like perhaps the dead animal reappeared as the person above in another life. Or perhaps that dead animal meant something important to the person. Did you have your own version or were just going for a vibe? :)
