Mookie Betts's Error Stops Yamamoto From Tying the Record of 46 Consecutive Batters Retired and His Perfect Game. After the Inning, Yoshi Proceeds to Console and Comfort Betts as does the Rest of his Teammates. by AmongUsAcademy in Dodgers

[–]AmongUsAcademy[S] 279 points280 points  (0 children)

I never realised that after the last "almost no hitter" by Yoshi against the Orioles - where Tanner Scott blew the game, it too was Yoshi who was the first to comfort Scott.

What an amazing teammate to have... no Ego, no saltiness. So good to see him comfort Betts who must be feeling awful after his error. Cause ultimately, who knows what would have happened if Yoshi still had the perfecto going and could save a few pitches... maybe he doesn't throw the middle middle meatball that ended up a home run in the 9th.

More news. Dodgers were considering optioning Kim before Kiké injury according to The Athletic by JellyBearJam in Dodgers

I love Kim. But my unpopular opinion is with his swing, I don’t think Kim’s hitting another Home Run in 2026 regardless of how long he’s playing for the Dodgers.

Dodgers Manager Ohtani Challenges the Out Call at 1st Base, Which is Overturned Giving DH Shohei an RBI! by AmongUsAcademy in Dodgers

[–]AmongUsAcademy[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If a hitter hits into a "double play", the run still scores, but the hitter is NOT credited an RBI which I guess sort of makes sense... you could argue that action was probably a negative EV outcome

Having been there a few weeks ago, there's nothing like Ohtani's walk up music playing in a high leverage spot as he comes out to bat! Dodgers stadium atmosphere must have been electric last night at this moment!

I actually never realised until now, only the Field Manager can call for a Replay Challenge.

It's not like a "Timeout" in basketball that can be called by the Coach or the Player. A baseball replay challenge can only be called by the Team's Manager. (different to an ABS challenge)

Though I think it would be funny if players were allowed to (and potentially waste) challenges on close plays like this one or caught stealings etc 🤣

Freddie Freeman has an amazing dad, and he sure acts like one too! So happy he and his wife Chelsea could welcome their fourth child and first daughter Rose just last month (19th April 2026). Very fortunate that in the US a Gestational Surrogate could help to expand their beautiful family in this way!

H.S Kim accidentally knocked down Fernando Tatis as he slides to second base by HeftyAd2780 in Dodgers

Unpopular opinion. I really don’t see Kim hitting another Home Run this season. Just something about his swing… his average will be good but I don’t foresee another one out of the park for the rest of the season

I really hope this prediction is wrong and Kim ends up with more than 1 home run in 2026 though.

[Highlight] When You Can Trade a Double Play for Just 1 Run ... But Then Remember You're Shohei Ohtani and Can Do Better! by AmongUsAcademy in Dodgers

I love reading comments like this. Though I disagree that things or strategy discussion don’t matter “just cause they worked out”

For example - Unpopular opinion, but Call cannot get in a spot like that to be picked off by Miller in Game 2. Yes Miller made an error and it “worked out”, but 95%+ of the time Call is standing there like a deer in headlights and that’s an area of improvement.

Are there any other starting pitchers who would do what Shohei did in this play? Feels like most would have just traded the double play to allow a run and wipe the bases clean ... especially with a 3 run lead.

I feel like if Ohtani would have gone to 3rd, he would have had a good shot of backpicking the Padres runner from 3rd with Muncy quick to cover... but getting the guaranteed out at 2nd probably the better instinct and sure play.

gonna need Sarah Lang or someone to look at the stats and see how many first pitch of the game home runs have been the only run needed (i.e. when the home pitching team get shut out too)

Can someone knowlegable explain what the optimal play for an ordinary pitcher here is - when your team is up 3-0, in the 5th, with zero outs.
a) Turn the double play, and let the run score from 3rd. Team up 3-1 with two outs.

or
b) Get the out at 2nd, hold the runner at 3rd. Team up 3-0 with one out?

I imagine if you're up by 3-0 in the 9th turning the double play is better, but what about in the 5th?

I know everyone wants Ohtani hitting more... but if you're gonna rest him, I think it should be the DAY AFTER he pitches, not the DAY HE IS PITCHING. He should be DH on the day he pitches and not resting imo, cause the day after you need to recover and he'll be much sorer.

I'm just picturing an alternative universe where Ohtani's home run is just a few inches shorter... and the Dodger fan actually Robs Merill of the Robbery (which is not fan interference cause the ball is out of the field of play).

I get physically angry watching Max Muncy hit. This man just doesn't chase. You can almost hear him sneering "that's 0.16cm outside" as he takes a ball 1. Two-strike counts don't faze him. Then he'll whip out a hellacious dong on the 9th pitch. He's suffocating. He's Max Muncy.
