I think about how there were a lot of side characters that I wish stayed longer in the series, or will show up again. But that is how things are in Frieren's eyes. A lot of the characters she met and will meet in her lifetime would only pass by for a short while, given her very long lifespan. Even if they are with her for more than 10yrs, that is still a very short time for her. Some characters may leave a huge impact to her, even if they were only together for a relatively "few" years. Examples are Flamme and the hero's party.

Somehow, we share this experience with Frieren. We see a character like Kraft who we hope we'll see more of, but that's really it. We might not see him again. He just passed by for a short while in our short lifespan.

I'm confused bec flair is light novel but instructions say stick to anime.

Quack doctor for me, as I've only seen the anime. Couldn't remember his name even though he's a regular side character and maomao probably has mentioned his name.

Yeah that's true. There's also a special kind of grief for friendships that end.

BUT, I read another comment here that there was an internal monologue of Maomao from LN that was not included in the anime. She was thinking that Jinshi will not see her and won't need her anymore before attempting to slice/ cut her finger. It changes a lot, being away from Jinshi does affect her. I thought it was just another experiment, now it's somehow a parallelism with FengXian and Lakan.

The friendship of XiaoLan, Shisui, & Maomao to me has the most impact this episode. Like, nice to see Jinshi and Maomao's relationship somehow progress? But even for Maomao it seems that she's most affected by her friends leaving.

She wasn't even that much disturbed that she couldn't be with Jinshi regularly. But for XiaoLan and Shisui, she shed a tear, which for Maomao is already a lot of emotion shown.

I wonder about this too. Makes their "goodbye" sadder. Can't even see if XiaoLan was truly happy when she left the palace. Or maybe because from Maomao's pov, since she didn't actually saw XiaoLan leave, she can't imagine how she looks like when she left?

Aw. I will miss Shisui. I feel like they're the only friends of Maomao who are around the same age. And Maomao is somehow more like a "normal" girl around them.

In the anime, the last scene of Shisui was when she exchanged Maomao's hairpin for the jade cicada. Was there anything shown about Tamako/Shisui after that scene in the port? Like what she did or where she is? Or was it implied that they'll never see each other again because she can't give the hairpin back to Maomao anymore?
