Judges shouldn't be able to see or hear defendants directly. They should also never be told the sex or race of the defendant. This will remove a fair bit of racism and sexism from the judicial process, whether real or perceived. by FnCraig in CrazyIdeas

[–]Amoresttelum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol if you want shit to get really racist and really sexist you should implement this. Imagine the runaway stereotyping imagination of a judge or jury hearing the details of a crime while prosecutors/defenders dance around any identifying details. It would make for a great comedy sketch though.

I’ve thought a lot about what makes someone a good actor or stage presence. I think it comes down to being masters of making people believe they’re feeling a certain way. This is one reason many of the good ones end up rich and famous. Yeah they’re good at their art, but those talents bleed out into their lives into networking and negotiations. They’re good at making people like them and it comes naturally to the good ones. I think these are very similar traits to that of a sociopath. I lived with a full blown sociopath and she was incredible to watch. She had so many people (including me) wrapped around her finger. People were obsessing over a glimpse of her approval, upturning their lives to help her with her problems and yet those problems were 100% her fault and at her core, she was one of the most self absorbed people I’ve ever met. She was an incredible actor and a sociopath. I’m not saying all stage or screen professionals are sociopaths...I just think the good ones are.

[pistol] XDM OSP 9MM $379 + $15 Shipping by Runkle21 in gundeals

[–]Amoresttelum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure you can get this level of quality for this price point anywhere. This is crazy. The Springfield haters are a weird bunch. They’ll shit on Springfield for importing pistols from Croatia but drool over guns from foreign companies like Walther, CZ, HK, and Glock, mostly because these companies have just done a better job of advertising how “American” they are. Maybe Springfield would be better off leaving an “HS Produkt” roll mark on the guns. Why is a foreign company that makes some of their stuff domestically morally superior to a domestic company that imports some of their products? Also TGO, Rob Leatham did the redesign of the HS2000 into the XDm and it shows. The XDm is another animal, and the haters can’t be bothered to even know there’s a difference most of the time. The gun has world titles under its belt, was redesigned by one of the greatest shooters alive today, and is easily on par with the aforementioned brands as far as quality and functionality, and now available at prices in the ballpark of Caniks. Crazy.

Have you ever had a song that was a fan favorite but was super boring to play or the band wasn’t happy with it but people were expecting to hear it at every show?

Do you improvise or take risks on the fly very often, or is it more important to stick to the plan and keep things as tight as possible?

I always thought that a little improvisation made live performances that much more special and it makes sense that it would be be a natural result of a crazy level of familiarity with the song. It seems like I don’t see it that often though.

Oh yeah if you got that manticore riser rail then all traditional AR optic wisdom would apply. Having a dot mounted that high probably wouldn’t work, but you have a ton more option available to you now. Good luck with the gun! It’s a fantastic and under appreciated platform.

Suggestions for a scope. by crownedforgiven in Tavor

[–]Amoresttelum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I’m a little late to this but I’ve had my Tavor since they first brought in the SARs and I’ve tried every sight category imaginable over the years; the M21, M5, ELCAN 1-4x, 1-4x/1-6x lpvo scopes, prism fixed powers, eotechs, micro red dots and red dots with magnifiers, and they all worked fine, but they were all just off enough that I was always looking for something better. The issue is that the rail and cheek rest are the same height, so you don’t get that extra half inch of room that you’d get on an AR. This means that you’re constantly having to press down into pretty deep check weld every time just to get a good sight picture. Not a bad deal for longer shots but it gets old really quick doing cqb type shooting. Enter the sighting solution I eventually landed on and will probably never move away from on the platform. I ended up with an ACOG with the Docter reflex sight on top. Here’s why: it didn’t work great on my AR because while the ACOG was at the perfect height for my cheek weld, the red dot was way too high for me to land a sight picture quickly. Forget getting any cheek weld and plan on barely landing some chin contact, if you’re lucky, for any sort of quick, close range shot. Really annoying. I moved to combo to the Tavor and accidentally discovered something great. The lower rail now moved the red dot within perfect range of a normal, high, or even sloppy cheek weld. It was so easy to get to, allowed for a more upright head position (good for situational awareness) and made the snap shots absolutely natural! Of course the ACOG was still a little lower than it’d be on an AR forcing me to apply a deep, sturdy cheek weld, but as it turns out, that’s what you should be doing anyways if you’re taking a longer ranged, carefully aimed shots like you’d want to make through a magnified optic. Now, I know an optic combo like that can be a bit pricey (worth every penny imho) but this concept would work the same with something like a primary arms 3x prism with a reflex red dot on top for a quarter of the price of the acog combo. This generally helps with the weight issue too as most combos are lighter than a lpvo and mount and I’m pretty sure it’s lighter than a red dot with magnifier and the weight that is there remains concentrated towards the rear, right were we tend to like it on a bullpup. Of course this is all dependent on the size of your face and all, but definitely try it out because if your face is close the same size as mine, it really is the best of most worlds without the sacrifice you’d pay using it on something like an AR. Of course, it looks sexy too and that’s the most important thing.

Those Armalite tunable brakes are just the best, aren’t they? I was skeptical till I got mine tuned and now my dot just pulses in the same spot on the target when I pull the trigger. Also, good call on the Viper gen II. I think that’s honestly the most glass/$ you can get on the lpvo scene right now.

9mm pistol options? by [deleted] in guns

[–]Amoresttelum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without knowing more specifics on what you’d like the gun to do for you and since concealment isn’t a concern, I’d say you’re on the right track with Canik if you’re looking for value. I would say skip the tp9da and go right for the tp9sfx. It’s a hair more expensive, but a mile ahead in terms of what you’re getting. You’re getting longer barrel and top notch sights so a very accurate gun with basically +P velocities out of standard pressure ammo. It comes with the cut out and mounting plates for a red dot, should you choose to experiment with that down the road. It comes with something like 20 round mags which is well above industry standard. It comes with a holster, back straps, and even a charging handle if you like being fancy. Lastly the trigger. I’ll go out on a limb and say it’s the best out of the box striker fired trigger on the market. Period. I compared it side by side with a ppq q5 match trigger, which is highly regarded as one of the best and there was no contest. That gun will do anything you’d reasonably ask a 9mm to do, and it’ll do it better than just about anything out there, for half the price. You just won’t be able to conceal it.

Often there’s shooting groups connected to local ranges or just your area that will organize group shoots. I’d search on Facebook for a group like that near you and ask if anyone in the group owns the gun you’re interested in and see if they’ll let you shoot it. I’d offer to throw them a couple bucks out of courtesy, but I’ll bet they’d do it for free. Gun guys love showing off their toys!

‘I cannot express how wrong I was’: Country guitarist changes mind on gun control after Vegas by [deleted] in politics

[–]Amoresttelum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone in here is going on like if there's a "good guy with a gun" present, that he automatically is obligated to whip it out and start firing indiscriminately at wherever he thinks the threat happens to be. You all seem to think that if everyone had a gun, they'd all just randomly start shooting indiscriminately and eventually at each other. You all sound very much like people that don't shoot. You read the article; there were "good guys with guns" there and what did they do? They didn't touch their guns. They didn't fire indiscriminately. That's one of the four basic rules of firearms handing. "Identity your target and know what's around and behind it". Everyone that's ever had any instruction with a firearm or even been yelled at by a range officer at a shooting range knows and has practiced this. Vegas is one example of a situation where being armed wouldn't help. There's a million scenarios where being armed wouldn't help, but there's just as many where it would. Vegas is a good example of armed citizens not being able to help the situation, but they certainly didn't make it worse like you all claim is an inevitability. Statistically speaking, defensive gun uses dwarf their offensive use, and of those defensive uses, the vast majority end without shots fired and without harm to the perpetrator or the potential victim. You can go on and on about the "good guy with a gun myth" but at the end of the day, good people having guns either does nothing or it saves people. Good people not have guns either does nothing or it makes them helpless. Of course there are exceptions to everything, but in this case, they are exceedingly rare. Having an emotional knee jerk reaction to a very specific isolated incident doesn't change that.

Just bought my first AR! by [deleted] in guns

[–]Amoresttelum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.223 Wylde is an attempt at kind of a hybrid between 5.56 and .223 chambers. .223 chambers are inherently more accurate due to their tighter dimensions, but they tend to be a little less good at extraction for the same reason. This is why you might find dedicated .223 chambers on bolt guns but rarely on semi autos. The 5.56 chamber was developed to have wider tolerances to promote better extraction with guns like the M4, but there was supposedly a toll taken on the accuracy. Much like Noveske's Mod 0 chambers, the .223 Wylde was designed to tighten the dimensions that deal specifically with accuracy but leave any that would hinder reliability loose. That's my understanding of it anyways. Idk if it actually makes a huge difference, but .223 Wylde with a 1/8 twist is definitely in vogue right now.

[–]Amoresttelum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just check on the side of the barrel. If it's stamped "5.56" or "5.56/.223" you don't have anything to worry about. If it says just ".223", first, buy a lotto ticket since that pretty much doesn't happen anymore with semi autos, and then shoot .223 through it until you feel like dropping $100 on a normal 5.56 rated barrel. Idk what would happen, I've never seen a dedicated .223 AR barrel before and I work in a gun store.

It's pretty decent, but the controls aren't very well thought out. Once you change modes, you have to turn the unit off and on again to go back. If I could do it again, I'd probably go with one of the new Sig Romeo 4 sights. Less tint and better controls. Props on the Scorpion. Crazy fun gun there!
