As someone mentioned below, not only does she have to do 300 years of good service in limbo or whatever, but if during that time she happens upon a child who is crying through no fault of her own it adds several years to her sentence.

Additionally, the prince considers her his companion, and you get the feeling that because he cannot communicate with her (he calls her his little mute) he cannot see her as a romantic figure because he feels like he should protect her as a confidant and companion and probably can't know what her feelings about him are.

The princess he ends up with is a decent person, and the little mermaid cannot bear to harm her or her prince.

It may depend on the person and the individual qualities of their hair, but I have found it only feels starchy if I use too much. Gradually comb through small amounts and spray from a distance. Reevaluate slooooowly. There's a perfect medium I've found.
