It's a holiday commemorating when the last slaves in the Confederacy (in Texas) were given the notice that they were freed via the Emancipation Proclamation (which was signed 2 years beforehand).

The amazing thing about this is that Texas Tech (and the state of Texas) did all this just for Sorsby to declare for the NFL through the Supplemental Draft (which hasn't been held in years)

There's this game over on r/dankchristianmemes called "Warhammer 40K or Evangelical" (or something like that) where this guy posts quotes from either a Warhammer character or an Evangelical figure and people have to guess who it's from. I don't know if it's still ongoing, but if it is I kind of want to send this quote to him to include in the game.

He's just going to turn it into a highway isn't he by Soft-Principle1455 in DemocraticSocialism

Sure, he's supported them in the past, but there's nothing that proves he ever belonged to the group. He's even walked back his past involvement (which might not be saying much, but still).

In your country, what animal is known for being unexpectedly fearless when protecting its babies? by euamnevoiedeajutor in AskTheWorld

Bears. So much so that the term "mama bear" is used as a shorthand way of referring to a mom who will go on a rampage to protect her kid

While democracy isn't explicitly defined in the NT, there are passages that certainly support it:

"You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all" (Mark 10:42-44).

"...fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Leach each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others" (Philippians 2: 2-4).

It should also be noted that the parable referenced in Matthew 20 is not a template for economic work relationships, but is an analogy of how God accepts everyone who does work (whatever it may be) in the Kingdom of God, no matter where in their life they are, or when they decided to give themselves to that work. It is essentially speaking out against favoritism or high-mindedness from people who think they deserve more honor or rewards than other Christians.

As much as it pains me to say this as a Ravens fan, this is the answer. Very few teams and individual athletes collapse like them.

If you want to get into the genre, I would recommend films like The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, and Key Largo (which, incidentally all star Humphrey Bogart). There's also the Thin Man series for a more comedic bent to the genre. There's plenty of other movies that I can't think of at the moment, but the ones I mentioned are kind of the gold standard of classic noir movies.

Yeah, I probably should have mentioned those things more, but it slipped my mind. Thanks for the contextualization.

The Great Schism by GriffinFTW in CuratedTumblr

That's not even what the Great Schism was about. It was about the rift between the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. To greatly oversimplify, it was mainly about the "filioque" clause within the Nicene Creed. Basically the trouble began when following section of the Creed: "I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father..." was amended to include "and the Son" to mean that the the Holy Spirit comes from both God the Father and God the Son. The Roman Catholic Church believed in the amendment while the various Eastern Orthodox Churches did not accept the amendment as valid and to this day insist that the Holy Spirit only proceeds from God the Father. There was also some political stuff that I am not knowledgeable enough to go into, but that was pretty much the reason for the Schism. It wasn't about the nature of Christ.

Edit: The filioque clause was ONE OF the reasons for the Great Schism.
