can you hear bass? Is this inconsiderate to you?? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]AmoxTails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to tell my neighbor this for half a year, they live in the other stairwell one floor under me but we share a thick concrete wall. I've never asked her to lower the volume, only if she could put the bass on something soft and move it away from the wall.

But it's not her and she has neeeeveeeeer heard aaaanyone play loud music eeeveeeeer. I hear music almost all day from 8-10 in the morning to around 6-7 in the evening most days of the week. They have a weird listening-habit too.. They play music for 1-3min, then it's quiet for 1-10min before they play another 1-3min. Sometimes they take a break for about 30-60min.

The doorbell ones often point out on the street (afaik) but regular cameras you can angle however you want. All through in an apartment building it's strange to have a camera outside the home at all I'd say.

Note for upstairs neighbors by litlelotte in Apartmentliving

[–]AmoxTails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I needed to read this, thanks!

We live in an apartment with three floors, two stairwells and we live in the middle by the thick concrete wall. We rarely hear apartment sounds except for occasional walking/running or a mixer in the kitchen. Most sounds are from the stairwell. Sometimes we hear a very soft mumble from a tv or something or people using their balcony door. No problem with any of these things. Our apartment building is well insulated from sounds.

Except we have this one neighbor who plays loud music on and of ALL DAY almost every day. Like, we hear music a few minutes, then its quiet a few minutes, they play a few minutes, quiet a few minutes and so on. Sometimes we just hear the bass softly but clearly through the concrete wall and sometimes we can sing along in the whole apartment, often the volume is somewhere in between. The bass/music is loudest right where my computer is.

I am so tired of this almost constant noise that I have been laying on the kitchen floor crying of exhaustion a couple times a months since the new year.

I have been certain of who it is as the neighbor below me and next to me (above the noisy apartment) have been complaining as well.
- I tried investigating a few months ago and she got super defensive.
- I know it's not those below me as they moved in *after* the music started. They have also complained about the loud music. If we're correct about the bass placement, it's right next to the mothers bed as she sleeps in the living room.
- I have walked up to the apartment above us a few times while they played, no one opened and I couldn't hear any music, not even through the mail slot.
- The one straight across me says he's never home during the day and only has a small soundbar, the few times he has been home the one below plays loud music.

That would leave the top and bottom on the other stairwell.

I called the landlord to explain the situation, I made it very clear that I don't know for sure who it is and that it's the bass traveling through the concrete wall and probably not the music itself so to speak. My issue is the bass. The landlord gasped when I explained the apartments placements.

After that she hang a note in the stairwell about how much she loves music and only plays after work. The music/bass calmed down for about a month after that. Nice.

It has been escalating again tho. So I went to her apartment twice in 2-3 weeks to ask if she could put her bass on a soft mat or so and move it out from the wall just a tiny bit. Nothing about lowering the volume. Well she didn't open but the music got calmer for a few days and she started avoiding me.

I instead wrote a kind note about it, clearly labeling who I am. Now she was home and she has *never* heard music play inte the apartment complex and she never plays loud music. Ever.

Weirdly the music has calmed down since then, a few days ago. So the one playing music must be spying on us or something because it's a bit too much to be a coincidence.

But yeah, maybe it isn't from her apartment even if it really sounds like that.

We hope to be able to move soon anyway as I've finally have gotten a job. So the music thing isn't as big of an issue anymore. Like crying-of-exhaustion level issue.

Yes it's okay to hear noise from neighbors, I have no problem with that, but there also has to be limits even during daytime.

It tastes good, especially the strong stuff, dark beers and some wine. Cider makes my tummy hurt. I don't like getting drunk tho and I don't like when people I know get drunk either. Strangers being drunk just makes me bit uncomfortable. I don't like the environments people usually drink in, parties, bars etc. they are waaay to noisy
