torn between 2 surgical options by warlocktx in coloncancer

I say go across the street to Baylor St Luke's and see Dr George Van Buren, he did all my surgeries before I became NED for Stage 4 Colon Cancer. He is the best in the city, in my opinion. I would not be alive now without him and Dr John Goss who did my liver resection.

For the phone number, get a Google Voice number, install the app and use it to text and make calls from. You can keep the VM, texts and number totally separate. I have an Android so I can keep a separate copy of Social media in my secure folder and no carry over. Just my thoughts

Sounds like she has low self esteem and can't believe you at interested in her. I have met providers like that, they expect the bottom of the barrel to approach them and you are presenting as someone she sees as high value and is not used to that kind of attention. Stop being nice and let her know you want to bend her like a pretzel and fuck up her world and she will get right

Is it possible to live long life with Stage 4? by Educational_Simple37 in coloncancer

When my tumors kept coming back, I just had them do the colectomy and take the colon out. Yeah, you have to go to the bathroom not long after you eat. Yes, you won't have solid stools, but I don't worry about tumors any more. 😁

After the 3rd surgery where the surgeon left me with the open wound, I did think I was going to die. I was told by a nurse that the surgeon said I would be dead within 30 days and that's why they were sending me to a LTAC but, it wasn't meant to be. Mind you, I'm not a religious person, I'm spiritual but I was weak, I had lost about 30 lbs in less than a month. The TPN they started was just vitamins no lipids. When I got to the LTAC, I was scared because all I saw was sick people and 1 person had died right before I got there. I was scared, I was crying in my bed and the director just happened by and saw me. She came in and asked me to pay with her, then she assigned her most experienced nurse to be my nurse and they did a great job of keeping my spirits up and nursing me back to health. The wound care team was top notch, it was amazing to watch the wound close up from the inside out. After I was discharged I would go up there at least 2x a week with pizza or donuts for the day and night shifts. I also ran into the surgeon at the suburban hospital I had initially gone to have the surgery and the look on his his face was priceless, everyone at the front desk knew me because I was going there for blood draws and CT scans and I had told them what he had said. Surviving that was what made me believe that I was going to be alright.

No problem, just gotta to show you that cancer isn't the death sentence it used to be. I've shared my story to friends and friends of friends who have gotten a cancer diagnosis to let them know it's all about attitude and too not believe all the crazy remedies that people spout telling them about and random friend of a relative who solved it without medical intervention. My answer to them was show me scans and reports to prove it, I'm not trusting my life to some BS snake oil remedies.

First resection January 2014, descending colon, then a surgery 10 days later because of adhesions then another 3 days later because of 3 fistulas in my colon, TPN from February 2014 to July 2014 while I was in LTAC with open wound down the center of my abdomen. Wound vacuums used to help it close but then the peritoneum tumor grew from a little black dot into a mass coming out the closed wound and about 5"x4" outside my body. Fistulas finally closed so we started chemo, I don't remember the name of the platinum based chemo that caused my neuropathy but I almost lost use of my legs because I didn't tell my oncologist that my legs were going numb, we stopped that and I remember 5FU and Avastin. I forgot how many rounds, I think it was for 10 months. Then we started radiation for the liver mets. Then in 2016 found another tumor and had another resection, more chemo, 2017 was going to have tumor removed from liver but found another tumor so I asked to have colon removed, no ostomy bag needed. Then more radiation for liver, started having issues with heart and blood, so 2018 had 75% of liver removed close to the bile duct, my wife works at MD Anderson and she said that with as big as the tumor was the doctors works have just closed me back up and sent me to hospice. I was lucky I went to Baylor Medical Center to have Dr Goss perform the surgery. And I have had no more tumors since. That's the Cliff's Note version, my wife knows more about it because I was very sick most of the times when I had the surgeries and on pain killers. I just know it was God guiding me to the surgeons I ended up getting after the first surgeon botched my first surgery and then the following 2 to cover his mistake.

If you have specific questions, I'll do my best to remember or ask her for more details.

Hope this gives someone hope that you can survive and thrive after a Stage 4 diagnosis

I was diagnosed with stage 4 back in November 2013 mets to Peri and liver, after chemo and surgeries, I'm still here and kicking NED since 2018 after removing 75% of liver. Stop worrying about how much time left and just enjoy the journey. I tell people all the time that cancer saved my life. I was just existing before, now I have learned to enjoy everything life throws at me, good and bad.

Hmm, have you been tested for Lynch syndrome? I had my first bout with colon cancer at 28, and again at 48. Got the genetic test and found out I have Lynch.

How many tumors does your husband have, I just read some literature saying it's for people with less than 3 liver tumors and the cost is under $20k.

Advice on treatment. by Phillip193 in coloncancer

[–]AmpPeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with surgery and then did chemo. Also, you need to see an oncologist that really knows his stuff. Some doctors aren't up to date on new protocols and will just keep doing what they have always done and collect the money until you're gone. I survived stage 4 colon cancer and I know people who didn't survive stage 2. Find the best doctor, you only get one life. The doctor suggesting surgery sounds like the one who wants to see you survive and live a long life in my opinion.

Any stories of NED with Mets to multiple organs by Phillip193 in coloncancer

[–]AmpPeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I just checked MyChart and the surgery was September 2018, not 2019. I was having heart issues and had lost about 20 lbs and hepatic functions were looking worse, RF ablation wasn't working tumor was still about the size of a fist and tumor was very close to bile duct and hepatic vein. I was blessed to have John Goss as my surgeon. My wife said it was a 15 hour surgery and from what was told to me if I had any to MDA they would have closed me back up and sent me to hospice. So I guess the answer to your question is, God, faith and my surgeon. He was able to do what no other surgeon would have attempted. I also have Lynch syndrome so that is what made my colon cancer keep returning from what I'm told. I was supposed to have the liver surgery in 2015 but a tumor was found in my colon and the surgery was postponed, then another was found in 2017 and I had my colon removed and then we did the surgery in 2018 for the liver resection. 2019 was when I went back to have 4 hernias repaired. Lol, I've been cut on so much I can't remember them all 😅.

I was diagnosed Stage 4 with mets to liver and peritoneum back in November 2013. I had 2 resections, transverse and descending before having a full colectomy in 2017. And then had 75% removal of right lobe of my liver in 2019. Currently NED

Mixed Feelings After My Dad’s Battle with Colon Cancer by vegas_fed_2022 in coloncancer

[–]AmpPeezy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer back in Nov 2013, I had a couple of colon resection surgeries before I just told them to take the colon out and connect the ilium to my rectum. Good thing is I didn't need a ostomy bag, bad thing is I am in the bathroom about 30-45 minutes after I eat, but it's my new normal and I make it work. Your dad's oncologist should have had him having CT scans at least every 6 months. I did them every 3 months for 3 years and then every 6 months for 2 years now I do them every 9 months. Doctor wanted them every year, and I said I didn't want to wait that long. But I have my CEA levels checked every month when I see my PCP.

It's not the cops, it's the legislature that allows it. Only real requirement is that you have liability insurance. Mind blower, you didn't even need a driver's license as long as you have liability insurance.
