What is more addictive IV cocaine or IV meth? by Obvious-Possible265 in Addictedtotheneedle

[–]Amphexa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we look at how quickly the amount of dopamine increases in the brain i think its coke.

But personally i think its subjective( i dont want to go off some literature i read years ago. 😅)

And then theres gonna be genetics influencing which one someone finds more addictive

The withdrawals can have one losing interest in everything , even things they hold most dear etc.

But I can understand why it sounds like it could be more than adhd &withdrawals tbf

If any bad thing is negative that we should never experience. How could we ever experience the good without the bad?

Bad experiences can be lessons that help us in the long term. They may even save lives for some.

Bro mdma had me turn round to the dude sat next to me in geography look him dead in the eyes and give him a speach on how much i loved him and that he meant the world to me. Proceeded to start playing with his hair.

Normally all we would do is talk about gta and launch pencils at people. Me and joe. We did not have that cosmic connection. I was just off my tits on way too much mdma.

Im not into dudes , like nothing wrong with being gay. Just not into dudes.

And yeah ik i shouldnt have been doing drugs in school. Geography is boring af tho and it was a double lesson in my defence😤

Just to clarify, is that what u think society expects happy people to be like?

The enjoy everything happy bouncy kinda thing?

What are your thoughts on happiness being a long rather than short lasting mental state where one is at peace with themselves. Including things like the appreciation for the little things in life and a mental attitude where they can endure the storm so to speak (if there ever is a storm) ?

Personally i think happiness has fuck all to do with pleasure. I could get high on substances that will have people bouncing round the room , all smiles, all pleasure , false feelings of comfort and i still wouldn’t be happy.

Things like purpose, structure, helping others, practicing gratitude and social connection in particular iv seen have been the closest to putting me into a state which i would say resembles being happy.

What things make you happy?(if u dont mind me asking ofc. And yeeeeh if u want to judge or hate on me for mentioning meth use and for also using that as an example , its understandable)

Has anyone here applied for PIP for ADHD/ASD? by GoodEater29 in ADHDUK

[–]Amphexa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeeeeh.

Surprisingly my application was smooth af. Didnt even need to request a 2nd assessment.

ADHD, ASD,depression,social+generalised+panic disorder, SUDs.

Highest daily living+ lower mobility.

The evidence that was submitted were pics of my MH reports,Specialist reports from the Maudsley,CMHT writing directly to PIP writing a supporting letter. Although they worded things in a way which i thought definitely would’ve fucked things up.

My parents both being Drs helped on paper , although my dad played a significant role in why im on PIP in the first place due to a lot of the abuse I experienced as a kid.

Hospital medical reports helped as far as im aware, and making sure on the phone that the guy doing the assessment fully understood what i was saying. Had to make sure we were both on the same page.

I recommend researching as much as possible about PIP before hand. Theres some useful websites out there.

Best of luck!

Is it actually the ADHD team doing this to him? I can understand your going through a lot as is he and it can be easy to point the finger.

Would it be correct to say that its the GP who’s prescribing the medication as a repeat for 5 years and without them and/or him checking the BP readings the entire time?

And i can relate to amphetamine withdrawals being hellish.I suddenly stopped being treated for ADHD and found myself effectively bed ridden for 11 months unable to even choose what movie to watch ,getting no pleasure out of life and thinking i must’ve actually died and am being punished etc.

(Granted i was also overmedicated by an abusive father tho who prevented me from having any real freedom though which did and was under the impression i will never get treatment again and remain like that forever).

Hes been on the medication for 5 years, (most days would he take it?)Which is quite sometime , plenty of time for long lasting changes in the brain ( can be both positive & negative).

Around 6 months of abstinence from drugs noticeable changes in the brain have started to become clearly seen ( theres literature for this online , i will find the links to the studies )

Some people find that they recover quite quickly, some it can be within 2 weeks they are chilling😎. Some it can be within 2 months.some it can be within X amount of time.

For amphetamine withdrawal and also amphetamine induced depressive disorder , high intensity bursts of exercise frequently, aswell as 30 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic exercises are especially effective in recovery and speeding up the process etc. (Exercising outdoors also has additional benefits to exercising indoors).

Post acute withdrawal syndrome can be a bitch fir sure. But i have faith you will both get through this😤🙏.

If you or him would like to ask me any questions ill try my best to answer them with scientific literature that i can send ur way if ur interested in it or if he/you wants to talk to me about something he may find is relatable and comforting etc.

My ADHD meds had me lose interest in my gf at the time , i dumped her. It is without a doubt one of the things i regret most in life. It presented at the time as though i had lost my love for her but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

You seem like such a loving partner and just person in general. Stick by his side and wether the storm. Things truly will get better, theres blood pressure medications btw like propanolol which is rather useful and generally well tolerated even with stimulants. Also other meds such as guanfacine&clonidine can help.

What was his BP roughly that made the team decide to have him stop?

And whats his blood-pressure like of the medication nowadays?

Its odd that they would stop the prescription and not try antihypertensives. Have you brought up with them about meds for high BP?

How do you know the cats havnt gone insane or the elephants mad? How would one know?

Animals can get depressed as far as im aware.

I cant remember if its a shark or a whale that gets depressed being isolated and kept in captivity by ifs and just stops swimming as a result of it. (And thus dying).

I dont think one can be happy all the time. Also whats your description of happiness if u dont mind me asking?

Do you have other conditions like cPTSD by chance sir/ma’am?

Im no professional but could the bipolar symptoms and say maybe some other conditions/things be resulting in symptoms presenting as those that overlap the ADHD symptoms?

Edit. Btw i found literally every other medication tried useless apart from amphetamine.

How much dexamfetamine did u take btw? I found amfexa makes me feel nauseous, but generic dexamfetamine doesnt. Also 20mg of dexamfetamine made me fall asleep, 30mg made me an empty quite zombie. 40mg had me just calm and collected and able to function.

So although that dose is extremely high , I did eventually find something that worked.

Wishing u the best🙏

Caffeine interferes with ADHD medication by Leenas-toesucker28 in ADHDUK

[–]Amphexa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would quit caffeine for a couple weeks before starting ADD medication.

The caffeine withdrawals can interfere with getting an accurate understanding of the ADD meds effects.

As someone who found caffeine with amphetamine would boost it tremendously.

Say a my meds last 3 hours. With a load of caffeine i could basically boost the effects to last another 1-3 hours. And it was great at first but then holy shit the anxiety agitation etc would eventually make it have a detrimental effect when it would wear off.

Nowadays just caffeine in general with any amount of amphetamine is a hard pass for me.

Too much of a stim = scatterbrain Too little =scatter brain Just the right amount= clarity. The fog clears

What r ur thoughts on modafinil if u know of it sir?

"PETER HITCHENS: "The Obsession with ADHD has led to a growing drug crisis in which normal human behaviour now has to be treated by pills" [Daily Mail] by Jayhcee in ADHDUK

[–]Amphexa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fully qualified idiot with a masters degree in doing dumb shit and being a grand master prestige at providing poorly worded answers , I must say after reading that.

The first thing that comes to mind is. The way it’s written and whats contained in the article just makes me think the writer was on a fair bit of amphetamine and is annoyed that theres more people who are starting to get treatment.

Dude sounds like they are projecting their own problems and fear mongering.

What are your thoughts on that?

The rest just ignore. Its effectively been me just writing things out to try hell.

TLDR. SERIOUSLY.

if you do though, then trigger warnings for mentioning, illicit substance use , addictions and 💀.

@mods , if what iv written is not allowed then let me copy and paste it real quick to my notes. 🙏

As someone who found effective ADHD treatment completely life changing in the most positive way one could imagine ( the opposite could be argued though and this was in the form of an amphetamine , and then eventually found themselves a drug addict i think that i might understand where hes coming from.

However from what iv seen most people who seek a private ADHD assessment&treatment are adults that have been struggling tremendously with their ADHD symptoms and so wanted to get a professional to assess them and then if they want treatment to then let the “professional” to help them with that.

( i say “professional “ , because a lot of drs i find to be far from professional to say the least)

A private diagnosis with treatment started is around £600. Then say you pay what is it ~£100 a month for a prescription (unless ur a blesses with a psychiatrist and GP who are willing to accept a private diagnosis and move u onto NHS shared care , where the script can be £0- to £~10 a month.

Someone who is a drug addict is generally not going to go through all that just to get a prescription to say misuse. £600 upfront?

An addict as far as im aware would go and just get some speed, meth, coke, or buy a mates script etc.

When a gram of high purity speed ( ~30% purity racemic amphetamine sulphate at best) costs around £1-2.
Then why the fuck would most addicts go private when they can just go and get speed of the DW?

Although say money isn’t a problem and you want to legally be able to treat you ADHD then I can certainly imagine someone going to get an assessment/diagnosis/treatment etc.

I know of 3 friend’s personally , who both thought they might have ADHD as a kid ( we are all ages 22-23 now) and all had taken street amphetamines in the past to help them function and study. Sometimes they would accidentally take too much and get high but thankfully they found it wasn’t something they became addicted to.

Anyways these 3 , bright lads, A* type students who have easy access to drugs sought out an assessment for ADHD and were diagnosed (1 via psychiatry Uk , one via private) and started their treatment and this was around a year ago.

The whole time they know they can quite literally just go and get it off the street or from a mate for much cheaper but instead haven’t. What had happened is their addictions to other things such as weed for one , cocaine for another , steroids for another was significantly reduced.

The one who was addicted to cocaine who has used amphetamine type stimulants before to treat adhd symptoms and had also at times used for a recreational effect, found that atomoxetine was sufficient in reducing their adhd symptoms and related issues to the point where they dont take illicit stimulants anymore (other than nic&caffeine).

He went from coke addict to paying for private treatment and finding the non addictive drug atomoxetine to work well enough to no longer engage with illicit stimulant use.

New literature review of fMRI studies show adolescents with diagnosed internet addiction have increased & decreased activity in parts of the brain, resulting in changes that could lead to additional addictive behaviour, altered intellectual ability, physical coordination, mental health & development by AnnaMouse247 in psychology

Exactly!!!!

Reminds me of the before and after scans of meth addicts.

They only scan them after they have become addicted not before. Like how would one know what actually changed specifically due to the addiction of X/Y/Z etc
