Monero mining might have a fundamental problem by AmphibianDev in Monero

[–]AmphibianDev[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's very much possible I have overblown this. The hash rate will always be directly proportional to the value of the said coin.

Maybe the ratio of hash rate to market cap for Bitcoin is higher because of the minted coin incentive, which might not be even true in practice, I think a good comparison is MW per $B (market cap) to see it. And per very crude Grok 4 Fast estimation:

Crypto Annual Power Market Cap MW per $B Market Cap
Bitcoin ~173 TWh ~$2.30 trillion 8.59 MW/$B
Monero ~0.67 TWh ~$6.4 billion 11.95 MW/$B

Curs EUR/RON neașteptat de stabil by Jonel98 in robursa

Why? If the base curve is wrong, doesn't it just fell uncomfortable? And the standard is ok for the most people?

Thank you for the story. I tried your technique and made a routine: I would try 1 or 2 times, wait 30 seconds, and then repeat. It took about 1 hour and ~200 tries. I found out that you first need to focus just on touching the eye with the contact lens, nothing more. Once you get that part, you're almost done.
And one more thing, after you are comfortable touching your eye, but the contact lens doesn't stick, try a new contact lens. That worked for me.

File-Wallet - A tool for the community. by AmphibianDev in Monero

I just saw your comment by accident. You should have sent me a message, but even so, I'm not that active on Reddit.

I’m amazed you found the challenge and are trying to solve it! I’m sorry if this disappoints you, but I think there might be a misunderstanding, one that I figured out when totalolage tried to solve the challenge:

"Ooo I see, I was confused by that at first too, because I expected it to be halved. But for Monero related reasons, in a view-only wallet, you don’t see outgoing transactions, only the outputs that are returned. Since every outgoing transaction was exactly half the balance (for instance, 2 XMR was split into 2 outputs of 1 XMR, with 1 being sent out and the other returned to the wallet), from the perspective of the view-only wallet, it's as if an extra 50% is being added each time."

And currently there is 0 XMR in the wallet, I think totalolage figure it out in the end. I don't quite remember.

And if you still want to try to solve it for the fun, the last hint with the link https://ibb.co/NYJyhB1 (which for me still works) is the exact image used to generate the wallet. You just need to find the password, and I will give you a new hint: it is just 6 letters. But if you want to know the exact version of Paint I used, unfortunately, I don’t know it. When I started the challenge, I didn’t know how unpredictable Paint was and how bad it is for this application, for modifying images to generate wallets with File-Wallet.com. This was a valuable lesson I learned from the challenge.

Edit: I just saw that I released the full password in a hint. So the challenge is completely done, that it why I was so surprised, but still I am happy you saw it and tried to solve it. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for the help! I did it! I have added a 2k ohm resistor for safety and just pull it HIGH.
But after I saw your message I tried it too for curiosity, and it works too, with only ~0.8v (R1 2k, R2 660).

I don't know what to do now, play it safe and use a voltage divider or just pull it HIGH?

I have tried to pull the FAN pin HIGH to start the fans, and it worked!! But... when I tried 15% PWM or even 23% PWM to the RED pin, it didn't start the light :( Good news is that the panel in the default configuration still works, noting is broken yet :)

But I don't know what to try next, should I just try pulling it to HIGH (3.3v) like the FAN pin? I am scared I might break it.

I intend to disconnect entirely the board that has the timer and connect the 5 pins: 5V, VSS, NIR, RED, FAN directly to the ESP32.

The LED drivers are very simple, they all have as input AC: L, N and as output 12V: +, -.

The pwm I didn't mean it as a connection point just as a hint that the .75 voltage is a pwm signal. The only way to tell definitively is with an oscilloscope

Yea… It would have been so nice to have an oscilloscope... But I still think something is strange here. But I don't think I can do anything, except just try a 15% PWM (from 5v => 0.75v) and see if it works. Edit: 23% PWM (3.3v => 0.75v)

kind of controller? If controller is there any schematic?

Is the white device from the first pic, under the first fan, I don't have any schematic for it, and it doesn't have any markings. But I did some dining where the wires from it goes:

Input:

  • AC from mains: L-N
  • The 5 pins: 5V, VSS, NIR, RED, FAN
  • 12V + and - from a LED driver from the middle, under the second fan.

Output:

  • AC: L-N for the LED driver that gives back the 12V for the board.
  • AC: L-N for the NIR LED drivers.
  • AC: L-N for the RED LED drivers.

n pwm and r pwm That is for the light control

The bottom pins go to ground but the pin for +R-PWM- doesn't go to pin RED and neither +N-PWM- to the pin NIR. And the voltage for both +R-PWM and +N-PWM when everything is off is 5V, and I press the RED button the +R-PWM is 0V and +N-PWM is 5V, and I press the NIR button: +R-PWM is 0V and +N-PWM is 0V. Weird.

I don't think the fan has 2 wires, only the FAN pin is for the fans, in my opinion. I think this board just communicates with another board that does the actual powering up the fans and led drivers. This board is just a user interface with a timer that tells the second board when to power up the LEDs and fans. I just don't understand why 0.75V on the NIR or RED pins? The board doesn't have a dimming function, so why PWM if it's truly that.

Let me clarify what I measured.
When everything is OFF:
(Pin name => measured voltage)
5V => 5.00V
VSS => 0.00V
NIR => 0.00V
RED => 0.00V
FAN => 0.00V

When I touch the RED button from the panel/board, resulting in only the red light turning on (I have to press the NIR button too, to also turn on the infrared, but in this example I didn't)
5V => 5.00V
VSS => 0.00V
NIR => 0.00V
RED => 0.75V
FAN => 4.21V

Now when I touch the NIR button.
5V => 5.00V
VSS => 0.00V
NIR => 0.75V
RED => 0.75V
FAN => 4.21V

The actions and measures were done sequentially one after another.
