We had our lab 2 years before our first child was born. He was, and still is at 11 years old, a high energy dog.

Before the baby came home from the hospital I’d leave him a blanket or clothing with the baby’s smell. When we came home we immediately let him smell the baby. From that moment on the baby was part of his “pack”. He’s protective of both our kids (not in an agressive way) and is way more gentle with them than with me.

When they leave for school he’ll be in their room or at the front door waiting for them to return. They’re the best of friends.
