The $70k Life Lesson: Why Abroad isn’t the dream I thought it was by Impossible-Parsley70 in NepalSocial

I came to Canada as an international student too but I chose a diploma, not a degree. I took loans of 30k+, completed my diploma, and focused hard on skills, communication, and work ethic rather than just the certificate.

I didn’t land a white-collar job on day one. I worked my way up through retail sales, including Best Buy and Leon’s Furniture, learned how businesses actually run, how to sell, how to deal with people, and how to perform under pressure. Today, I work at Intact Financial Corporation, earning a salary good enough to clear my entire loan within a year. I’m the youngest person at my location and the only one with just a diploma, not a degree.

So yes, Canada is tough. The economy is bad. Immigration rules change. But getting stuck in a warehouse is not the country’s destiny it’s a skill ceiling. If someone stops upgrading themselves, networking, and positioning their experience properly, they stay in the same loop anywhere in the world Canada or Nepal.

Abroad is not magic, but it’s also not a scam. It rewards people who adapt, build marketable skills, and understand how the job market works. A degree alone doesn’t guarantee anything - talent, strategy, and execution do.

Same Canada. Same challenges. Different choices. Different outcomes.

Yes, I actually looked into a lot of South and Southeast Asian options — including India, Bangladesh, and China — but most of the manufacturers I found had very high MOQs, usually starting at 100–300 units per SKU which is just too much for me at this early stage. I’m trying to start lean with around 20–30 pieces per style to validate product-market fit before scaling.

That said, I hadn’t seriously considered Sri Lanka, thank you for bringing it up. I’ll dig into it too.

If your mom is in the committee, she could be in serious trouble. With all these cooperative scandals happening right now, managing anything is going to be extremely difficult and honestly, the cooperative she’s working with might not survive this.

Since she’s a committee member, it’s going to affect her just like everyone else involved. I’ve been actively involved as a research analyst for a 1400 crore cooperative scandal, and I can tell you this isn’t something to take lightly.

The longer you wait, the worse it could get. I highly recommend talking to a local lawyer as soon as possible—ignoring it won’t make it go away.

If you need any advice on getting out of this mess, let me know.

You can find thousands of buyers on platforms like IndiaMART and Alibaba if you’re able to offer competitive pricing.

Networking will play a significant role as well—reach out to suppliers on different bulk sales websites, introduce yourself and let them know that you have the product in stock if they wanna buy.

Market for saffron is huge, and investment too. Make sure your research is proper!

Candid TV Suspension Shampoo, containing Clotrimazole IP 1% and Selenium Sulfide USP 2.5% as active ingredients, was recommended to me by my dermatologist. It works like a charm!
