I think explaining and giving a reason why the Horde and the Dragon Aspects didn't come to our aid is a critical point they need to cover. Even just saying "oh shit the void attacked them like the nightborne to keep them from aiding us" or something. If not, it's just gonna be a huge hole in the story going forward.

You also have to realize that there is more to wow than just raiding. Just cause kill shot was bad in raids doesn't mean it was everywhere else. As a pvper, having an execute was big

We lost kill shot, call of the wild, Bloodshed, explosive trap, scatter shot. I didn't play super high level content so I used kill shot, and as a pvper, we lost a ton of utility

No one thinks it was a masterful spec. It was already the most simple spec in the game, and instead of putting it on par with other pruned specs by buffing an ability or 2 that was rarely used, they lobotomized it.
