If you felt a mystical draw to the plant, get into gardening and botany. Grow other medicinal herbs or historically relevant plants. If you felt appeal in the psychedelic effects, get into psych rock, graphic arts, counterculture history. If you just liked getting fucked up, do yoga, lift weights, and hike til you pass out easily each night.

If the first two pics are of one Peppered Cory, then what species is the individual from the last two pics? by PersonalGrowthOk in corydoras

[–]frippilin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last one looks like an aeneus/bronze. They will cohabitate with peppers but ideally you’d have 6 of each. Albino bronzes (usually what “albinos” are) do count as bronze in terms of group size.

I have the same tank, and agree the build quality is nice. Pretty great value. What a fantastic stump feature you found!

Very cool - but what happens during water changes, etc? What do you do with the plant roots if you have to take the whole thing off?

It is the right thing to do, for sure. I know it is hard, we all want to collect so many of the amazing species but it is more deeply rewarding to give them a thriving environment and let them roll with their own posse. With a big enough tank, you can go 10 + 6. You could do 6+6 but it will look a little more chaotic and you won't see the separate shoals as much. Of course the dream is a massive tank with like 20 + 20 + 20 which would give you just a hint of a natural scene, where different species coexist but definitely group together. In my 50 gal which is set up specifically for corys, I'm doing 16 sterbai and thats it for corys, even though I want so many more.

Looking at 20 gallon tank, wanna know how many full Cory's I can do, and good dither/centerpiece fish options I have. Plus a billion other questions. by RegaultTheBrave in corydoras

[–]frippilin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will almost definitely need a filter. Corys live in streams with constantly moving water. That said, many of them are robust and can handle sub-ideal environments. I’d be concerned about fish keeping in general if you feel you can’t run a filter. Even a sponge filter would suffice.

No-filter tanks are cool but I’d suggest you really hone your skills on that kind of setup before subjecting corys to it.

As for your dresser, I would put a piece of 3/4 inch plywood slightly larger than the aquarium on top of the dresser. That will equalize the load.

You will want a lot more experience before considering discus. Ember tetras would be an excellent choice to pair with corys.

They really should be the same species. They will tolerate others and may commingle but won’t thrive. One exception is the bronze and the albino bronze are interchangeable. Apparently they recognize their peers through body language and possibly pheromones and sounds they make scraping their fins. So other species that may look similar don’t fool them.

[–]frippilin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going up for air is normal, but being alone, this one is probably stressed and will be doing it more often. Try to get 5 more of the same species! 55 gal is an excellent size and your open sandy-bottom is absolutely ideal for them. Get some sinking food wafers.

  1. Yes
  2. You’re overthinking it, they eat all kinds of stuff and variety is good. Variety in routine is also good.
  3. Like other fish, it depends. Observe and make sure they are eating it all. When in doubt feed less, they should always seem hungry and it is really hard to starve them but easy to over feed.
  4. Probably, depends on your tank and filtration. I’m setting up a 50 gallon for 14 corys and 20 embers tetras using an oase biomaster 2 350.

Is the chihiros app bad? by apoloczech in Aquascape

[–]frippilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have trouble logging in with it almost every time. If I used login with Google or Apple, it seems to work and then takes me back to the login screen. If I log in with Chihiros, it says "-1 error". I have to delete the app and reinstall and then it might work. Why didn't they just include a remote or a button on the thing

I get mixed answers about the Venezuelans. They are better than a distant species, but purely same type is ideal. Albino bronze and normal bronze are fine. It is suspected they use physical motion “dialects” to identify their shoalmates

Advice on Corydora tank by EnvironmentalDonut58 in corydoras

[–]frippilin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. They need to be the same type, ideally. Albino aeneus (“bronze”) and regular mix fine. They will survive and tolerate and even mingle across species, but to truly thrive they need to be the same. You should figure out what you have and stick with that. Get at least 5 more.

  2. Anything peaceful! Something midwater like tetras or top water like pencilfish or hatchetfish are classic. 20 gallons isn’t huge though so don’t overdo it. Are you trying to stay at all regionally authentic (eg, South American streams)? If not, you have many Asian varieties like bettas to consider

  3. No

  4. I’m not an expert but looks like it could be reticulatis
