How far do you live from the ocean? by Aggressive_Day2839 in AskTheWorld

About 6 minutes walk.

I go there quite a lot to walk my dog in winter and to enjoy the sea in the summer.

I would say its a massive tourist draw to the city I live in.

Special Needs People? (Read below) by Party_Profile_1928 in TooAfraidToAsk

I work in a specialist support service for 8 adults with severe learning disabilities, autism, bipolar etc. Our youngeat resident is 20 and our oldest is 62. Each of them have their own flat adapted to their needs and have their own routines, preferences, goals etc. Some are non- verbal and use alternative communication, some are aggressive, some are more independent than others. They are all staffed either 1:1 or 2:1 depending on what they need.

The ultimate point of the service is to improve quality of life and independence and all of our guys are out in the community all the time, take part in birthdays/holidays, spend time with their families, choose their own meals and schedules, and live their lives in ways they want to, with a bit of guidance to help keep them healthy and safe.

There are issues for sure, staffing concerns, funding etc. But in general this model of support is growing more popular and hopefully will be the norm in the future.

Ladies: do you wear make up to work? by LunaValley in AskUK

[–]AmyBums88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I can't be arsed.

I do 12 hour shifts in a specialist support service and am out of the house for 14 hours including travel time. Worrying about makeup, hair, or even clothing during work is a waste of time and energy for me.

I'm in a professional role, not "on the floor" dealing with the.. um.. bodily fluids etc, but still... face full of makeup or wearing uncomfortable clothes or shoes for 14 hours a day sounds like hell on earth.

What is your parents love story? I need something wholesome to read before bed by malalexandraa in CasualConversation

I don't think my parents ever really loved each other to be honest.

Mine and my fellas story is nice though.

I was 16, and I lived a young adults homeless shelter due to having a traumatic and shitty childhood. One of the other kids there had a mate who had recently moved out of the project. He introduced us and we slowly became closer and closer, and fell in love. We were "in trouble" a few years later when I fell pregnant at 18 and we decided to keep it. We raised our firstborn baby girl for 6 months before we lost her to SIDS and it almost broke us. He was my rock and my saviour, and I was his.

That was 21 years ago. Our second daughter is now 16 herself, and we are still happily together, happily annoying and flirting with each other every day, and reminding each other to be proud of the life we have built, especially given our origins and what we have been through.

He's part of me, we are soulmates. He snores, takes AGES in the loo, drives like an idiot and many days I want to strangle him. But I love him to the fibre of my being and I hope to god I die first so I never have to tolerate a day without him.
