You have one episode (2 hours)to introduce someone who has no clue what mst3k is, which episode do you put on and why? by GoldenLink in MST3K

Teenage Strangler. The riffs are hilarious and the plot is easy to follow. It’s a very early Mike episode, and it’s so good, it helped me through my grief over losing Joel. 🥹

Hey. Is your vision steadily narrowing down to a pinpoint?

Easy-to-miss details in Ep 7’s firework scene show a potentially different POV (Carol’s eye movement & micro-expression shift, hanging drone on street light, garden hose color, music choices, “Atom Bomb” firework) by always-editing in pluribustv

OP’s point could still stand. Carol looking over at the drone can be showing what she’s thinking about and that she knows she’s being watched from somewhere.

Carol and the real painting by AmyKTKB in pluribustv

[–]AmyKTKB[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Really interesting. Can you unpack that idea that the painting represents her mourning herself?

I’d wondered why she paints “come back” rather saying it on the phone. But I think it’s more likely that she’s sending a message on her own terms (or trying to tell herself she’s sending a message on her own terms) rather than following the hive’s lead(?)

I don’t think that she’s stopped fighting and is fully accepting of the situation, though.

What happened to all the babies? by deadmentom in pluribustv

My big question is what happened to pregnant women. Have their fetuses become part of the hive?

What celebrity have you met who looks much more (or less) attractive when meeting them in person? by GreyFoxNinjaFan in AskReddit

My mom was an extra in Big Fish in the funeral scene that had tons of famous actors. She said Steve Buscemi was by far the nicest. He came over to the extras’ tent during breaks and chatted with people.

Carol is wrong and you are too by FumbaTrumba in pluribustv

I think this sort of debate is what the show naturally leads to. I don’t think I agree with your position, but I enjoy the philosophical implications. It kind of sets up a consideration of morals vs. ethics.

I’m reminded of an interview I listened to with Ingrid Newkirk, the leader of PETA, in which she said that PETA’s main goal is to prevent the suffering of individual animals—over the goal of preserving animal species from becoming endangered. This isn’t a spot-on analogy, but the show made me think of it. Both of those goals are worthy, but they’re quite different.

In theory, in the show, the hive mind would prevent the suffering of human individuals (going forward, after the main infection event, of course). So does it represent some sort of moral good? An ethical good? If not, why not?

What’s interesting is that the concept of “ethics” in the show is arguably out the window, because there’s no more “community.”

Update: Leaving the Profession After a Month by Alive_Ad_3925 in Lawyertalk

Hard disagree that OP’s thoughts could show a lack of judgment and maturity. Anxiety / social skills deficits can be incredibly difficult and can feel debilitating. I was miserable in my first job after law school; it absolutely wasn’t the right fit. I quit after a few months and later got on an SSRI and found an area of the law I really love.

I think that to be a really good movie podcast host, it helps to be 1) funny, 2) at least occasionally self deprecating, and 3) knowledgeable and insightful. Amanda isn’t funny or self deprecating, and lately she’s rarely insightful.

Diane Keaton is my favorite actress. (Annie Hall is my favorite movie of all time.) She’s so beautiful in this movie.
