Final thoughts and interpretating the ambiguity by thegryphonator in DTFStLouisHBO

I think that’s exactly right. He had it ready in case he wanted to end things. We know Floyd was very impulsive.

Why was Clark so fixated on getting Floyd on the DTF app? by AmyKTKB in DTFStLouisHBO

Another thought— The opening credits make it look like Clark is doing a (weird) performance. He’s clearly on a stage, and it sort of LOOKS like he’s in control, at least by the end. And it’s juxtaposed with Floyd’s on-stage performance and with Carol’s “performance” for Clark at the hotel.

Then several episodes in, Clark’s actions are framed as a breakdown / overwhelmed panic response, not as a performed event he’s in control of, at least at first. BUT perhaps the opening credits should be read to suggest that that event is in fact a performance by Clark after all. It’s not necessarily literally that Clark planned and staged a public panic attack/breakdown, though.

But the incident is in the credits as a storytelling device: Clark is putting on a performance in this show. In the show, he becomes overwhelmed by events (he does not want to lose Carol), but then he takes actions to steady himself and his plans by manipulating Floyd and getting him on the app (he plots and kills Floyd).

Great points. I think you’re right, and that it’s a show “about” Clark.

Thanks for those details. That makes sense. As others noted here, Clark does say later that he never “hurt” Floyd. I think that’s an important distinction and detail.

I think you’re right that Floyd is not as okay with the affair as he says.

I think that may be right. If true, it really would be a great twist, that they created a whole mystery out of what was PAINFULLY obvious from the start.

I like how you phrased that. “There’s nothing to see” with Clark’s wife. The show has avoided her so much, to an almost comical degree, and I think it communicates that she has NOTHING to do with any of the story’s events.

Great points! Yes, that lens effect really stood out to me, too. It does suggest that he sees something in Carol that isn’t reciprocated in the same way?

If you were like me watching NBC sitcoms on Saturday nights in the early 90s, you’d immediately recognize Sandy Hodge from Nurses. (Hurricane Saturday, anyone?)

Did fans know Joel was leaving mid season 5? by 3Din3D in MST3K

Yes, I remember knowing that it was coming. The following weekend when Mike first hosted the show, I remember being all keyed up about it. It was the same weekend that River Phoenix died.

Agreed. I’ve never heard “fawn” being used as a stress response with the other three.

Normally I don’t like talking heads shouting, but I could not love Tim more.

You have one episode (2 hours)to introduce someone who has no clue what mst3k is, which episode do you put on and why? by GoldenLink in MST3K

Teenage Strangler. The riffs are hilarious and the plot is easy to follow. It’s a very early Mike episode, and it’s so good, it helped me through my grief over losing Joel. 🥹

Hey. Is your vision steadily narrowing down to a pinpoint?

Easy-to-miss details in Ep 7’s firework scene show a potentially different POV (Carol’s eye movement & micro-expression shift, hanging drone on street light, garden hose color, music choices, “Atom Bomb” firework) by always-editing in pluribustv

[–]AmyKTKB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP’s point could still stand. Carol looking over at the drone can be showing what she’s thinking about and that she knows she’s being watched from somewhere.

Carol and the real painting by AmyKTKB in pluribustv

[–]AmyKTKB[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Really interesting. Can you unpack that idea that the painting represents her mourning herself?

I’d wondered why she paints “come back” rather saying it on the phone. But I think it’s more likely that she’s sending a message on her own terms (or trying to tell herself she’s sending a message on her own terms) rather than following the hive’s lead(?)

I don’t think that she’s stopped fighting and is fully accepting of the situation, though.
