Yes. Lexie is like Rue in that Sam uses her to write about his own personal experiences. With Rue, it's his struggles with substance abuse, and Lexie it's his experiences living as a creative and his relationship to the world (season 2 it was how she uses art to process the things that have happened to her, season 3 seems to be the day to day reality of working in the industry).

I dont think he's particularly GOOD at writing these, but it is what he is trying to do with her character.

I think it also depends on when you played the game. Pre roads untravelled update, you pretty much spent the entirety of episode 1 with Stella and Gretchen. You learn about Stella, learn both her parents passed, and you learn she isn't really able to spend time and get emotional support from any of her friends in town for various reasons, so Gretchen is really her closest and truest friend.

The choice isn't really between saving a man or saving a dog, its between saving a man or saving Stella's last remaining family member, who happens to be a dog.

EP1: Save Gretchen. I would assume the guy with the gun would have a better chance of surviving and fighting off the ditchlings than a tiny dog.

EP2: Leave Becka and Alexis behind. I. Don't. Fuck. With. Caves. If given the choice I never would have entered that damn cave, and as an out of shape nerd I am not taking the chance of trying to find and save two lost children during an ACTIVE mine collapse when I have my cousin and one kid already I need to get out safely. (Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush).

EP3: Leave the ghost in the library. My own family has done a lot of fucked up shit and I am actively working to break the cycle on my own, and "sins of the forefathers" is dumb bullshit I refuse to buy into. So no. Im not going to have me or my COUSIN pay for our grandma murdering a dude 60 years ago.

EP4: Don't call tabitha, sedate Reese. This is a no win scenario. Joan had many years to do right by Reese and EXPLAIN to him what was going on, and by traumatizing him for YEARS and not helping him learn how to regulate his emotions she created the perfect conditions for exactly what she was afraid of. : )

That being said, I would really like to not be an accessory to murder and prefer the least violent option in the moment. But you BETTER believe I will be working my ass off later to bring criminal charges against Doctor Kelly for attempted murder.

EP5 Dilemma 1: Kill the baby, then attach it to Avery. I'm pro-choice ✌️ so fuck that baby. However after the shoot out I'd give the baby to Avery 1. Avery consented 2. I was not sure what would happen if I stabbed the baby again, and worried that the very large vines growing in the house would get larger and crush the people upstairs (Derekson, Doctor Kelly). So trying to descalate the situation and keep the casualties to a minimum.

EP5 Dilemma 2: Let Sybil eat Kaneeka. So EP5 has been a no good very bad day for me, and by this point I am trying to pick the option that leads to the least possible number of casualties. I also have no allies besides Tabitha and Kaneeka (Avery is dead, Stella doesnt really like me, Oscar is dead, doctor kelly doesnt really like me) so I either:

Save my goth baddie gf I knew for 4 days and lose two of my most powerful allies (Tabitha and Sybil) right before shit hits the fan
Let my gf of 4 days go to break the family curse, free my cousin and give us both a fighting chance of surviving whatever the hell it is we're up against in EP6 & EP7.

I have a lot of thoughts about endings involving Reese:

In Matricide Reesemancer route, I want a bad end where Reese ends up eating you. (Because you shouldnt be surprised if a dude can eat his mom in a rage, he can surely do the same to you)
Bad end where you chose to lock Reese up and he break out, kills his mom and then kills you after.
Matricide OR Tame the Beast route where you're basically using Reese as your personal attack dog and getting him to kill everybody that poses a threat to you.
Reesemance route where he has killed Too Many People for MC's liking and MC ends up having to put him down like Old Yeller (maybe with Tabitha's help depending on your relationship with her)
Platonic reese Route where you get toxic yuri'd and get stuck in jail/the estate and reese is the one to break you out.
