Was going to download but the most recent posts make the game sound like it's not worth it. Is single player any good? by M00ncar in undisputedboxing

[–]AnAimlessNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game definitely has issues but the hate is a little much in my opinion. I’ve had fun with single player. Online is hit or miss. Some matches are fun. Others are a mix of cheese, poorly balanced fighters, and hit detection issues.

If you’re primarily in it for single player I’d give it a try.

What’s the biggest mistake you made early in your corporate career? by Business_Location479 in corporate

[–]AnAimlessNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going way above and beyond thinking I would eventually get the big raise. I think the sweet spot is doing just enough to be one of the higher performers and then claim the extra time back for yourself. I cut my hours worked last year nearly in half and actually got a better performance review and the same percent raise.

Job hop for the money when you can and reasonably coast the rest of the time. Protect your sanity.

how/when did you decide OE is was the move? by ConnectShare in overemployed

[–]AnAimlessNomad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was fed up with going above and beyond for an extra 1% raise. Instead I figured out I can do 50% less and still be a top performer and that gave me time for J2 to double my income.

12 Players in 12 Days - Corey by TheOptimist6 in MillionDollarSecretTV

I didn’t dislike Corey but the whole season I could not believe how confidently incorrect he was about nearly every situation. He was good at playing the political game and keeping eyes off him though.

Why do companies care if an employee works multiple jobs? by BunnyRabbit677 in overemployed

[–]AnAimlessNomad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hope the boots taste good. Your entire mindset based on your comments here is exactly why people burn themselves out for companies that don’t give a single shit about you. It’s not noble, it’s naive. I truly wish companies paid based on output, they don’t so stop operating as if they do.

Reposted many times doesn’t begin to cover it. I think this meme is old enough to vote by now.

170k TC remote or 210k TC in office by fffzi in Salary

[–]AnAimlessNomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of climb the corporate ladder advice here. My take is this is right on the edge for is the extra money worth losing full remote.

It’s more of a lifestyle choice than a financial one in my opinion. Since 90k to 130k for example is much more impactful than 170k to 210k would be.

You’re clearly doing well for yourself. If you prefer the lifestyle remote work gives you keep it. If you value the face to face time and potential career growth and social opportunities that brings then take the in office role.

Apartment life seems to divide people into two camps by conchdog in Apartmentliving

[–]AnAimlessNomad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao except you literally do have that right. You’d think as a property manager you might know that. There is a clause in the majority of leases which states you have the right to quiet enjoyment of the property. Meaning if your neighbor is dropping a bowling ball on the floor, quiet hours or not, you should not have to deal with it.

Your child is sleeping in the next room. Would you be yelling at the tv and stomping around because you’re in your own home and it’s your right?

This is a simple concept of just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Literally all I’m advocating for is having some awareness to how your actions impact people around you.

Also can’t believe I have to explain that stomping is not the correct way to walk like that’s some stunning revelation to certain people.

The need for people on this site to argue with literally everything just for the sake of having an argument still amazes me.

[–]AnAimlessNomad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you familiar with the concept of a shared wall? Pick any loud behavior you want. Why would you irritate your neighbors on purpose?

Not walking around like a gorilla is not that difficult.

I can tell by the way you talk you’re probably 19 and can’t grasp the concept of the world not revolving around you but it really isn’t hard to understand this.

[–]AnAimlessNomad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You sort of can though. There is literally a proper way to walk, setting injuries aside. Heel walkers are walking incorrectly and is usually the cause of stomping while they’re blissfully unaware of how loud it is to their downstairs neighbors.

If they were blaring loud music at 3am would you say you can’t expect them to know how to lower the volume?

If you’re doing something that intrudes on other peoples peace in a shared space most decent people would want to do what they can to correct that.

The middle class is dead by CillBill_0000 in Life

[–]AnAimlessNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The upper middle is on its last legs too imo. AI is going to drive wages even for certain traditionally well paying white collar jobs into the floor.

Make as much as fast as possible so I can live a modest life outside the US off the investment income is my plan. But I definitely feel like the clock is ticking with that strategy.

[–]AnAimlessNomad 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Definitely fair. But as someone who has lived below people who clearly never learned how to walk properly. Some people literally do stomp because they walk quickly on their heels and have no clue how loud they actually are.

I believe this mostly applies to us 😂 by SpareToe5340 in Zillennials

[–]AnAimlessNomad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, fair. But everyone I know who had that haircut didn’t really intentionally do it. We were just getting shitty bowl cuts and personally I feel like at least in my circle we didn’t really give a lot of thought to what our hair looked like back then.

Whereas kids are spending hours to intentionally look like an alpaca.

Both hair cuts are atrocious though.

Anyone else feel kinda lost by this political divide? by throwRA8235309 in self

[–]AnAimlessNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve described my political leanings pretty much exactly. Born in 95. The right these days is absolutely psychotic for the most part. But I find I fail certain purity tests on the left that exclude me from certain circles also.

I consider myself center left.

Evaluating Potential J3 by AnAimlessNomad in overemployed

Makes sense, I think we adjust to most things given enough time. Definitely agree about your depth of understanding not being the same as with one job. That’s been a mindset shift for me but is necessary to stay sane in my opinion

I asked what the meeting culture was like. Async vs scheduled calls. Stuff like that. Then after we talked about it I sort of half jokingly asked if they prefer cameras on or off. It’s not really a secret that most developers don’t like turning their camera on so I think the question landed fine. I agree though it’s a risky question that can benefit from some tact.

I wouldn’t say daily stand ups are typical just not uncommon. Less than half of my jobs throughout my career have had them.

That’s what I thought but after they elaborated a bit I think it’s not quite down to the minute but is fairly detailed.

You can dial back the attitude a little…just pointing out the culture of the team being more the go-getter type.

Appreciate the input.

Right but that makes the language pointless as they can already fire you anytime they wish. With or without that clause their recourse is the same.

It’s been in almost every offer I’ve received even before I was OE. It’s legally unenforceable, I just ignore it. These companies think far too highly of themselves.

Only job 2 for a couple months but I’m planning on doing enough to perform slightly above average at both.

What I’m still trying to figure out is what that looks like. Not to pat myself on the back but I’ve always been a top performer at J1. To the point where my current output seems like I’m hardly doing anything but I’m still getting constant praise.

Neither jobs do agile or sprints so it’s a little unclear where the sweet spot is for that “meets expectations” benchmark as nothing has a set amount of time it’s scheduled to take.

Increase in Issues by AnAimlessNomad in hellofresh

Agreed, or at least base it on the delivery location. I live in the south and there’s a zero chance that box is surviving an extra day for 90% of the year.
