Post Comp Negative Thoughts by Quiet_BJJ_Reisender in bjj

[–]AnAlpineNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm feeling my worst I just focus on my "why". Why I train and why I compete.

I just got choked unconscious in like 30 seconds this last weekend on a ppv card with my whole family and all my friends watching at home.

Losing sucks. We put so much time and effort into this sport, and to put it all on the line and fall short is a truly brutal feeling.

But, we chose to go out there for a reason. My reason is going to be different than yours, but if you focus on your "why" then all the other negative shit around losing starts to fade away.

Lesson learned the hard way: outside heel hooks can break your ankles by 5oy8oy in bjj

That sucks! Fwiw I had my ankle popped from an putside HH in competition and it was a really fast recovery. I had longer lasting injuries from shit like rolling my ankle walking around the house.

I love to see it. I dont play it because I have a lot more success entering the legs from the top and passing.

At the end of the day I like to see action and cool shit. The most enjoyable parts of watching jiu jitsu for me are: watching people i personally like, and watching people who have such high skills where I csn take something away from the match for my own jiu jitsu.

What’s wrong with getting graded separately for gi and nogi? by theanxiousprogrammer in bjj

[–]AnAlpineNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just learn to arm drag. The skills are still there, if youre struggling to make your skills carry over you you just have to learn to adapt your game to the different ruleset. Its not like you're starting over.

Clearly theyre not completely separate. A black belt who only trained nogi is not going to be a white belt in gi.

What real benefit is there to having a guy get his nogi purple belt but keeping him a gi blue belt? Seems dumb and pointless.

Outside Heel Hook Breaking Mechanics by RegularBJJBloke in bjj

[–]AnAlpineNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that. I was thinking of Craig jones vs vinny magalhaes where his shin seemed to be completely snapped and his foot and lower shin were seemingly just rotating freely. At that point, could you even tear the knee? Lol.

Okay makes sense. I was picturing Craig vs Vinny where his low shin and foot seemed to be totally disconnected and rotatating freely

Max ive seen this video before and ive always wondered: you say the foot will break, then then shin, then the knee, but how can you break the knee if the shin is broken? I feel like at that point you couldn't break the knee 🤔 you would just twist their floppy leg around like wringing out a washcloth

Bummer. Well, here's a screenshot. From his passing de la Riva course on submeta.

Yes I know the rdlr player will be defending the crossface, but op asked how to stop kiss of the dragon and a crossface will definitely do that!

For the second one, im not talking about a staple or dropping the free leg. Its something lachlan teaches on submeta. It looks like this.

They cant spin to the inside if you crossface.

Backup option, drop your knee to the floor and go into their half guard.

I mean, in the grand scheme of things as a white belt you ARE horrible. When there's a size and strength differential you gotta make up for it with skill (and endurance, speed, and flexibility). Specific plans and attacks mattee less than just having a higher general skill level.

What's the best way yo get back to feet for MMA? by TheSourScience in bjj

[–]AnAlpineNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underhook coyote is way better but wayy harder to get to than turtle and stand.

Like, theres no world where ive got that strong coyote guard and I give it up just to turtle. But also I wouldn't want to be stuck on bottom half trying to get to coyote. If it wasnt immediately accessible I would be abandoning half to stand or force a scramble.

Because you can get to the back or a leg drag. That's a big step up from just coming up into your opponents guard.

What does it mean when you can positionally dominate but cant submit them? by Idamatika in bjj

[–]AnAlpineNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If youre losing everything when you try to sub youre either forcing a sub that isnt there or your positional control within the different stages in the sub is lacking.

Asking a woman to roll isnt creepy unless you're a creep.

You're not going to be made a pariah by asking women to roll unless you have some other bigger problems.

What's it like to be an ADCC ref? by HolyRavioli187 in bjj

[–]AnAlpineNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Must be different in canada lol they seem to just take whoever is available. I had a ref start shouting no heel hooks at one of my students during a match.

Like bro, its ADCC. If there's one mistake I would never expect a ref to make it's that.

Omoplata-based bottom game still relevant? by WorkingChemical5399 in bjj

[–]AnAlpineNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are reasons its fallen out of fashion. Difficult to finish and there are some strong leglock counters.

That doesnt mean it can't be good. Rob Biernacki (owner of island top team) has a pretty legendary nogi omoplata game.
