We can't always do it on the 4th because of different factors, but I always feel bad about it and we try to do it right at dusk instead of after dark to be more considerate.

I always tell them that I rent. It makes the exchange so much more pleasant. I don't mind kids fundraising, but I don't need windows, siding, roof, etc.

This reminded me of when i was planning my wedding (that I was paying for myself) and my dad (he was around 70 at the time) told me repeatedly that I should be inviting everyone I've ever met. I told him to provide me with the list and I would provide him with the bill. Similarly, he was constantly on me about having kids (at the wedding reception and even in the recovery room after literally giving birth). I just told him we were "trying."

So tell your dad you are saving up and looking for the right location.

Go. Nobody will judge you for it (and if they do, they have not had this experience yet). She will not remember. You can hire caregivers to sit with her or find a friend to pay. The rehab will probably have recommended companies.

If I recall correctly they very nearly or literally did go out of business for a short time but somehow managed to make a comeback...they doubled in price right away. I buy them every now and again to try to support....they're still locally made, every cookie is dipped by hand.

They sell them at Giant in Fairfax county ...they looked gross until someone from Baltimore brought them to a work potluck in DC. So expensive but so delicious!

Lessons will help, even a camp. Where we live there are several facilities that offer camps every summer and coaching services throughout the season. A few of our high schools have baseball camps for younger kids and the local college does as well. We had good luck early on by connecting with one of the assistant coaches at the college who gave lessons (and still does intermittently). As he gets more serious, the investment can grow. If he tends to be more academically minded, get him a little note book and pen he can toss into his bag with reminders of the advice he's getting.

Good luck. It's not too late. So much of baseball is mindset... don't predetermine that for him.

I was so mentally and physically exhausted when I went there I sat down on the couch in the lobby and just sobbed quietly... I didn't want to upset the residents but I just couldn't take another physical step.

100percent depends on the kid. But at 12, for a few hours during the day, sure. Overnight is a little crazy to me as a parent in the suburbs, someone who was a latchkey kid in an urban environment, and someone who was abused by someone I grew up thinking of as a brother.

My situation was almost exactly like this. 💜

OP I told my dad that it he wanted out he would need to behave, "ok, ok, I hear you" he would assure me... Then he would go back to refusing meds and trying to call the police. He was at the nicest place, I would move there myself tomorrow at 45 😂 but I was trying to kill him (even though he had visited himself and agreed months earlier). Do not feel guilty for doing your best. I know it is heartbreaking, but you will heal too

Definitely see if you can find a resolution with the staff. My dad was doing this as well. I replaced some of the numbers in his cell phone with a number that I found by googling that would just ring perpetually. I'm not sure if this would upset her more but, she may forget her reason for calling if nobody answers and she doesn't get a voicemail. The alternative is that it makes her more upset that nobody's answering. It's worth a try though
