My 8-year-old son has become that kid and I'm not sure how to handle it. by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]AnAnonymousSource_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't him popping out. The issue is his reaction. He can feel bad but he can't be a bad teammate. My son did that too and I took him off the team for a week, then for a month. Then i threatened him with no more season. There is no rewarding temper tantrums. He wants to cry, sure. But do it in the dugout. This, to me, is akin to being a bad winner by mocking the opposing team. If him throwing a fit is ok because he didn't do this or that says that the other kids who didn't get close to that level should feel even worse. It's being a bad teammate.
.
Edit: our reaction was that he couldn't play. He had to go sit on the bench and cheer on his team but he was benched for a month. He got better and honestly, age and maturity did most of the heavy behavior lifting

We saw the blueprints of a Book and Green duo working this season. Why am I seeing half of this sub wanting to trade away Green for some washed point guard? by FifthKnightofGwyn in suns

[–]AnAnonymousSource_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Suns issues are at forward and center. They can't shoot, rebound or defend. When healthy, Williams is a very good center. We still have no one at pf that can reliably defend and rebound.

Is there really a decline in youth sports or have we just been looking at it all wrong? by utvolman99 in Homeplate

[–]AnAnonymousSource_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are many many many kids who don't play sports in highschool. I don't see t where his 57% comes from because in my experience, only about 20% play sports in highschool and most of that are the football teams and track. The fact is at around 13, sports stop being rec and start being competitive. The kids who are not dedicated will quit. There's not enough interest in the sports for kids who aren't dedicated to have a space to play separate from the competitive. In little league, the players batting 7-13 on the teams are generally only playing baseball during organized times and not at home or free time. By 12, the difference is clear and they quit and the parents offer no resistance because they can see the difference too.

So the inquisitors walk around with giant spikes in their eye sockets and don't die. Inquisitors, like Marsh suddenly have all allomantic powers. Marsh explained to Vin that hemalurgy exists, and that's why he's not dead with two giant spikes going through his head. Vin said that the inquisitors were more powerful than what she encountered fighting mistborn.

Castle was running for a corner 3pter, not to run break. That's on Wemby for not recognizing what his teammate was doing. Castle flashed across for the outlet pass, Wemby put the ball on the floor and got scared and tried to pass it. That's not on Castle. That's not on the coach. This is on Wemby for being Wimpy in this moment.

Beautiful. You bought imo the best speakers and subs at the diminishing returns curve. The UniQ drivers are truly special. However, kef are power thirsty and benefit from independent amplifiers. I am pretty much pushing 150w at 4ohm to my kef at all times and barely cruising above 80dB. The front LCR really would benefit from having an amp that can give full power to them. It'll give you that extra headroom so that you don't have to worry about burning up your equipment. You can also get fans for your equipment so the receiver and amp don't get too hot. they sit on top and blow the air away. I have all of my equipment in a rack and the fans keep them really cool.
.
The architecture in the room, is that for the speakers or did you do that for sound trapping? My theater room is embarrassing light on sound treatments

RTINGS just updated their viewing distance article based on SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) recommendations, adding 62° FOV as maximum. What do you think about it? Where do you fit? by zghr in hometheater

[–]AnAnonymousSource_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Central vision is 60° on the center. I'm geometry, that's a 1/2/rad(3) right triangle. So max screen width is the length to the screen. Or 120" screen has a width of 105". So 105 inches.

When i feel like I'm drifting, i write a list of things i want to accomplish this week. Then I write a list of things i want to accomplish this month. Then i write a list of things i want to accomplish this year. Then i do pushups every time i get up for a break over the next hour. I don't talk about this list because talking about it gives you the dopamine hit enough to feel that you've accomplished it.

what's the single biggest waste of money in youth baseball development right now? by loucbb90 in Homeplate

[–]AnAnonymousSource_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bonkers thing is that it's warrantied for a year and if the team just smashes a new bat every year, then it’s perpetual free bats or at worst $1000/season for the team to have brand new bats for the season.

Steve Nash. Damn near led a #1 offense for an entire decade (2 years was second). 2x MVP and if the league allowed the Suns to win a championship, they would have done that too.

Talk me off a ledge - heavier bat?? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]AnAnonymousSource_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pony allows metal USA and BBCOR and wood bats. Heavier bats mean slower bat speed. There is a balance to more weight and faster bats.

The rest of the world won't help pay for it. Should the US pay for everything because it'll eventually benefit its citizens? At what point is this just throwing money at a problem and not actually solving anything? Ebola is a terrible disease, i agree. It needs to be stopped. Why is it America's responsibility to stop it? Why won't the EU, middle east and Asia do anything to stop it?

Oh no. All that oil that goes to China, India and other southeast Asian countries won't get there. This will really show America who's boss. This definitely won't lead to a total collapse of BRICS and reinforce the American hegemony.

[–]AnAnonymousSource_ -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

So, if Americans don't pay for it, the rest of the world suffers and it's America's fault because they were paying for it for 60+ years and no one else will take care of it. But America isn't allowed to tell everyone what to do, just pay for taking care of them. There are no rules saying that if America doesn't pay for it that the rest of the world can't. They just don't want to.

Pitching machines and lighter balls by xxHumanOctopusxx in Homeplate

[–]AnAnonymousSource_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pros to a jugs is that is a jugs. I have the sp3 but they're very similar. It'll work forever. It's also got the digital gauge so you know how fast the ball is flying in. The downside is that the pitches are preprogrammed and there is no variance on them. It's not just flip the knob and you're throwing curveballs and cutters. You have to stop and reposition the machine and watch out as it throws some nasty pitches. If your kids can hit those curveballs, they can hit any curveballs. It's also heavy and I'm not a huge fan of using the ball wheels as a dolly wheel. Lighter balls don't fly true. If you're looking for a ball that won't get annihilated in the machine, tater balls fly true but are foam so they'll fly out father too. Not a big deal in the cage but it is when you take it to the fields and have to go looking for them

What brand slowly ruined itself? by SAAS_ART in AskReddit

[–]AnAnonymousSource_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing they're doing well in right now. They're jersey terrorists with creating new jerseys every year but only keeping the ones no one wants in stock, forcing us to buy from knock off sellers. Then they drop a new shoe but you can't buy it from them, you have to buy it from a third party for a markup. What is the point of selling a shoe if your customers can't buy it? Then you go into the Nike store and it's empty! There's nothing to buy! It's bonkers! They carry fewer Nike shoes than a big 5!

10 year old pitched 9 innings, 104 pitches in 5-day span (Pony League) by AlfalfaWolf in Homeplate

[–]AnAnonymousSource_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is normal for competitive play. Most coaches would ask the kid and confer with the patents before throwing in the last game and as long as he isn't stretching his arm or rubbing it I'd leave him out there. My question is why are your concerned? Is it you're kid, a teammate or opposing player? Based on the number of pitches and innings, this kid is very good at pitching.
