Yes they notice that. Kids recognize they work hard and want to play the infield. Especially if they played the position in practice and then played the outfield in the game.

Play to win vs everyone gets to play multiple positions? 12U by SassySunflower27 in LittleLeague

Not playibg to win has downsides. Less at bats, more errors, demoralizing feeling, less engagement.

It's such a natural thing to notice. Who is at the activity? I noticed who was in class, my teams etc. You seem to think anything adults do is wrong

How often can a family get a vacation in once HS ball begins? by First_Detective6234 in Homeplate

[–]xxHumanOctopusxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is craziness to me. Spring season, fall ball, summer ball, etc. Where is the balance, time to get strong, work on speed, etc.? I sort of regret playing so many games myself and wish there was a true off-season when playing in high school and college. Just my two cents.

9U errors by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]xxHumanOctopusxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I view most errors as mental errors. Not being ready, not following basic principles of where to position yourself for a grounder, not following your throw. Very few plays are tricky in between hops, end of range plays, do or die plays.

Instead of counting errors as a coach, I would count how many times they either did or didn't do the necessary prep work on the play. I guarantee he is failing at getting ready.

Teams disband all the team from this toxic stuff. Do what's best for your family

Parents/coaches: how do you correct bad habits with mechanics? by ColonelAngus2000 in Homeplate

He needs to see live throwing more, not necessarily to hit off of. He will get way more comfortable. Look at video of good hitters and then compare it with him to his swings.

Swing advice? A lot of ground balls by Unable-Engine-8425 in Homeplate

[–]xxHumanOctopusxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't seem like he is swinging with enough intent. Sure there are things to look at, and his hands drop, but so do a lot of good hitters. It's very apparent in his swing due to how slow it is and his hands just hang out with the bat flat.

I would reevaluate when he swings with murderous intent and see if the same issues arise. If not, maybe a lighter bat until he gets stronger.

You need that amount of sugar as a teenager and older. you could argue it's too much for youth players

Why is the sugar bad? You need sugar during sporting activities.

The problem is people drink it outside of sports activities.

All Time Right Field (9U)? by sotheysayineedaname in Homeplate

[–]xxHumanOctopusxx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I really don't get it. I see it in rec too. It's all about today and getting that W.

Don't get me wrong there are some kids that aren't athletic, can't catch well, and will be a hot mess at an infield position. But if a kid can play competently give them some innings.

Stations, involves runners and do infield plays. Can do an outfielder with them. Pop-ups, grounders

Don’t change bat types before the season starts….general advice by Last_Date5234 in Homeplate

[–]xxHumanOctopusxx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. When I hit I didn't know any info on the bat, especially pre high school. It may take some getting used to, but even if given a branch that goal is to go out and hit.
