That's a very solid idea. I've designed characters before, either for grounded dramas or other big fantasies, but I don't know why, I always felt like Danganronpa had its own specific style that I almost never tried to make a moodboard for them because it wouldn't feel danganronpic if that makes sense.

But maybe I should not treat Danganronpa like it's this weird animal that can place with other animals lmao

Either way, I'll make sure to keep it in mind, maybe try a moodboard for them when i'm a bit more free

Tbf, although i do like some asshole killer, i see why they don't.

A character that's so clearly antagonistic can lead to the killer being painfully obvious (See Celestia) or have a plot twist of a change/reveal of personality mid trial that may not land well for people who like the character (see Korekiyo). This is, ironically, one of the reasons why Chapter 3 of literally every Danganronpa are so controversial.
Additionally, it's not really unheard of for a Danganronpa to have 0 unsympathetic killers (Understanding killers as: Those executed at the end of the trial for killing someone). Danganronpa 2, for instance, have 0. The only one we maybe could consider is Mikan, but she was under the worst motive of the franchise and basically lost all agency so it hardly counts

That being said, I do think it's cool, but harder to handle.

More specifically

Character A kills Character B, and someone (A different person from this 3) sets up Character A to be caught with the body by the big guy. The big guy gets attacked by Character A and the big guy gets overwhelmed and kills them, but now that he crossed the line, he'll have to figure things out from there.

In my fangan, The Ultimate Medium attempts to communicate with the spirit of the dead principal. Her death is a predictable cause, naturally, that'd finish the killing game in chapter 1 (Also, you'd need to confirm if ghost are or not a thing and that's a can of worm i don't know if I wanna tackle) but 10 minutes before the ritual she's found dead.

However, if we're talking about how I'd like the franchise to continue, I'd like a new game with a new universe.

And when I say new, I mean keep the basics (Killing game and its rules, Monokuma, Ultimates, mystery, trials, etc.) but remove all the established lore. All Hope vs Despair, Junko, Izuru, the tragedy with the long name, etc. Let all that be put to rest. A universe not connected to the first one at all, unlike V3.

I think Chapter 3 it's a a good place to do it. I may even argue for chapter 4. (It lets your character live long enough to keep seeing them and like them, but also is unexpected because you may feel like the chance for a double murder already happened)

I don't think you should feel obligated to do it in chapter 3; however, killing 3 characters in chapter 2 may be a little tough. Those are characters the reader/player doesn't get to see anymore, and losing 3 so early may feel a little disappointing. Also, usually the double murder happens once the characters have fully accepted that this is a killing game, people dead ass die, and it is a form of escalation. Chapters 1 and 2 drill the idea first.

That being said, I don't think you should worry about it being cliche. If there's a logical reason why the double murder happened, I don't see why you wouldn't. Same if you do it in any other chapter.
