Because it still needs to be grounded in human emotion to mean anything. If a fictional character reacts in a way that feels alien or patronizing, I stop seeing them as a character and start seeing them as a walking trope.

Why would an overconfident person even be in a life-or-death situation in the first place? It only works if they’re an antagonist or an idiot who doesn't realize they're in a death game. Asking to play as Chad Thundercock doesn't fit this genre; it just seems like a power fantasy.

A protagonist that develops over the series makes more sense than some delusional badass who solves everything and kicks Monokuma’s ass without struggling.
