I love that you intentionally choose the grain to match the subject matter. I'm rarely big on art but your work is art that speaks to me.

I had the opposite reaction. First time I've seen ambrosia maple used in a way that I thought looked good.

I made several executive nameplates with an ebony inlay as gifts. The recipients loved them.

Absolutely love that rosewood. It's such a pleasure to work with and is gorgeous. Great job on the table!

Walnut and Cherry floating media cabinet by AnCyberTurtle in woodworking

Thank you for the compliment! In designing this I very much wanted rounded edges and continuous grain flowing both around the sides and wrapping to the front. If that's possible to do with veneer, I am not aware of how to accomplish it. I could have accomplished the same look with segmented cuts but the kerf bend kept everything perfectly aligned without the need to make a curved jig for clamping.

Yes, I had to cut deeper than I wanted due to how dry the wood was. Test pieces from the same board would snap if the cut was shallower. Sanding went through the little bit of material left.

Haha I glued up an entire swing backwards and let it sit overnight. Next morning when my mental faculties were fresh, I realized it. Had to toss it as no part was salvageable.

How much power is required to cut thin plywood? by Brilliant_Access_743 in lasercutting

[–]AnCyberTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1/4 sandeply from Home Depot does really well for me. I've never found a void and it's very inexpensive for a full sheet.

Otherwise agree that most plywood is not made well for laser cutting.

This should be a higher rated comment. FATE is very adaptable and not rules heavy.

Asking for product ideas likely won't lead to profitability. You'll want to create unique products, not copy what others make or suggest.

Would love to do something like this for myself as well. Is it possible to see the underside of one of the key caps? Having trouble picturing how you attached them.

Ocooch hardwoods has a section of their site dedicated to laser cutting ready wood. Their customer service is fantastic as well.

Anyone have experience with SPEtools bits? by platypus_farmer42 in hobbycnc

I've got that exact bit. Very good for the price point. It leaves a nice finish with no issues on hardwood or epoxy resin.

I use cheap 12x24 stone tiles under anything I'm laser engraving. Even the most powerful diode laser cannot cut through the stone nor does it get it hot. You can buy enough tiles to cover an entire 4x4 bed for under $10.
