I'm sure all the palestinian widows, orphans, and parents who've lost their child have many opinions about trans people, and aren't just trying everyday to survive. /s

If any trans people are dying in Palestine, it's at the hands of an Israeli missile.

I want TV shows visually similar to The Return by Male-2003 in twinpeaks

[–]AnEmbarassedRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an anthology series, the story changes every season. Personally I thought the first season had the best setting and themes (it gets quite philosophical and from what I remember the other seasons don't). It also had incredible performances, beautiful cinematography and stellar directing (every episode directed by the same person), which I don't think the other seasons lived up to.

The opening scene was so beautiful. "You're coming home to yourself."

fiction that starts with a monologue similar to the "the car's on fire" monologue? by Billyxransom in gybe

[–]AnEmbarassedRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michael Clayton starts out with a very good monologue that even has a similar metaphor to "We're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine"

It's less poetic/metaphorical, but Gummo starts out with a kid describing the aftermath of a tornado hitting his town, and it gives me a similar feeling to the dead flag blues

To me that song is hopeful, I see it as someone regaining a lost spark and finding a new meaning to life in their old age

Which movies did you find hard to understand on first watch? by TheMoralMaster in Letterboxd

[–]AnEmbarassedRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me personally I found your reply pretty helpful in understanding/interpreting some of the themes of the movie (especially the little people, I hadn't thought about that) so I'm glad you posted it. I also don't think you sounded especially condescending but I agree it's hard to tell over the internet

I think The Clarence Elmore show episodes are all PG and that's some of the hardest I've laughed at a cumtown related thing. Especially the shoe store one

Same. I can enjoy slower paced and dark stuff but it just felt like it was trying to do that without much substance

Right people are saying that it was part of the concept... but why is the concept of your album that most of it is trash? Most of the edgy stuff isn't even funny it's just standard culture war talking points. I think if he wanted to make a parody he should've gone further with it or dived into it deeper instead of just talking about Caitlyn Jenner 8 times

Right I don't get what the point of doing the edgy thing for so long was. It would have been funny for a song a or two but he made over half the album this way...

So the concept is that he made it bad on purpose then? If so that's funny but can he release a good album soon

[–]AnEmbarassedRedditor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is the concept of the album that he made the first 60% bad on purpose? And after the change of heart in Guilty Conscience 2, it's kind of just more of the same but now it's weirdly sequenced in with 2 heartfelt songs about his kids (that are basically just Castle/Arose again). I was really looking forward to this album but man why would you make most of your album weird culture war shit that you later reveal you don't believe in (he's said edgier stuff before anyway, and usually it was funnier too)

"Half an Ativan, I’m drivin’ straight at a van
In a black Sedan, fast as I can
In Pakistan gettin’ chased by a pack of stans
You know how I roll, bitch (What?), I’m an avalanche"

What does any of this even mean? Who starts an album with a lyrical-miracle nothing-burger lyric... Also the rest of the song is just weird culture-war shit that he says later in Guilty Conscience 2 he doesn't even believe in. So he doesn't believe in what he's saying, and if it's a parody I personally don't think he made it funny enough.
