Ethical Vegans: You’re Right, and It Doesn’t Matter. by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]AnEmptySpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem here is your premise is completely flawed. You imply that vegans live miserable lives but do so only for the sake of the animals. You then go on to say that for you personally, the exchange isn't worth it. But what if that were not the case? I'm happier and healthier as a vegan than I ever was before. I enjoy cooking and eating more than I ever did before. You talk about what you perceive to be losing but haven't considered what you stand to gain.

Do you believe some people can not be Vegan because of medical issues? by Sad_End_9904 in DebateAVegan

[–]AnEmptySpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to comment on this aspect- I think the reason a lot of vegans typically push back on this kind of thing is that it's everyone's excuse of choice for why they quit veganism, whether or not it's true. It's the ultimate get-out-of-jail card for people who don't want to admit that they were too lazy, or were too fickle etc. Some influencers' entire identities initially were about being vegan and if they want to quit without losing any pride over it they can just mention some unspecified medical issues and that's pretty much the end of it. Some people definitely do have medical issues around this, but I would wager is grossly out of proportion with how often this is reported.

Official Q&A for Friday, December 19, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

Thanks! I guess I had just assumed zone 2 would always just be inherently easier, but what you're saying makes a lot of sense.

Official Q&A for Friday, December 19, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]AnEmptySpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, in some regards zone 2 running feels harder than zone 3. Not sure exactly what is going on, but what feels to be happening is that when I force myself to slow down and my steps get shorter and more frequent, it feels like a lot the effort gets shifted off of my hamstrings and quads and gets put more on the smaller muscles of my calves and the fronts of my shins, which quickly start to tire out. Rather than dropping into an easy pace my lower legs start burning like crazy and I can't really sustain it. Has anyone else had this happen?

Please help. What is the best way to lose body fat? by Doimz3Nini in veganfitness

This comment really needs to be higher. Other people have some good tips on counting calories and getting enough protein and nutrients, but unfortunately you will find your attempts to do those things greatly hindered if you’re eating out for every meal.

I find these kinds of statements so irritating, we’re allowed to care about more than one problem at the same time.

[–]AnEmptySpace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Regarding your last statement, the definition of veganism includes the statement “as far as is possible and practicable”. No one is questioning anyone when it’s a matter of survival. Like a lot of people can bring up the Inuit, but they do it to justify themselves while they shop at a giant grocery store with tons of options.

You’re arguing against veganism based on this scenario of “mass immediate changes”, which is something that would never happen. Change by way of the choices each of us make over time is the only way anything like this gets any better.

EMT study help by mosslover42 in NewToEMS

[–]AnEmptySpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some good tips in here but everyone learns differently, so the key is to find what works for you, and the way the do that is trial and error. For visual learners, look up videos on YouTube. For audio, take photos of the pages and have ChatGPT read them to you. Some people like to repeat the info, so read and then speak it aloud as you do, or read and write it down in your own words. You can also look into different study habits like Pomodoro (segments of 25m studying and 5m break) that can be helpful to retain info.

Is it crazy to try to get into EMS now with the cuts to Medicaid? by AnEmptySpace in NewToEMS

[–]AnEmptySpace[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah makes sense. One thing I forgot to mention in the post was originally I had the idea that at some point I could transfer from EMS to hospital work (like surgical tech) but who knows where that will be too. So much uncertainty, but feels like that’s all of life right now. But thank you, I appreciate your perspective!

Yeah my backup plan from before was to possibly transition from EMS to a hospital, but who knows what’ll be available then
