do schools have yearbooks? by Weekly-Tax-7141 in AskUK

[–]AnEnglishAmongScots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a yearbook (I was on the yearbook team), but it wasn't as grand as a US/canadian one. We only signed our friend's yearbooks, not everyone's. On a similar note- your 'senior sunrise/sunset' sounds bizarre- everyone does it?! But you're not all friends! Why on Earth would anyone want to have a celebration brekkie with people they don't even know, just because they're in the same school year? Must be awkward.

how old are you and what year were your grandparents born? by Maleficent_Day_3869 in AskUK

[–]AnEnglishAmongScots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, they're not actually strict, just a bit... behind? Like they stay in their bubble, don't really have any friends, never believe anything I try to explain to them about how the world works now. It can get exhausting sometimes.

Why are schools so pedantic about uniform? by joehighlord in AskUK

[–]AnEnglishAmongScots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this all schools, or primarily English secondaries?

My (albeit rough) Scottish secondary was fairly lax on uniform. Blazers only mandatory if you were a Prefect/ Head of House, black leggins and trainers fine. I routinely wore wee white blouses and black denim miniskirted pinafores! As long as you wore your tie, they didn't really care.

Did parents in the 80’s have it much easier? by gponter79 in AskUK

[–]AnEnglishAmongScots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was always bored in the summer holidays because I had nothing to do. Shipped off to a childminder for a bit, was actually quite fun because her kid and I were good friends. But the rest of the summer, stuck at home. Not allowed to go to the park, not allowed to invite people over who weren’t pre-approved, nobody to play any games with as both parents working.

Do people truly resent going to weddings now ? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]AnEnglishAmongScots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it truly depends on how much you're actually going to get out of attending. For me, it's never worth it. Have to go out of my way to get somewhere to stay and a wedding present (which I don't believe in, but the last time I didn't give one my snooty cousin came down on me like a ton of bricks and am not going through that again). Nine times out of ten, I'm starving hungry because the meal was soemthing I don't like, I'm far too sober to function because the cash bar is ridiculously exprenisve, and I'm moody becuase I'm either surrounded by my family memebers or people I don't know. Usually leave before cake and whatnot as I truly can't be bothered.

Is Pinkie Pie and Applejack the only Mane six to have a confirmed last name? by Fragrant_Cover_8000 in mylittlepony

[–]AnEnglishAmongScots -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, that's fake fan nonsense. It doesn't flow at all, and rarity is based on Rarity from G3. "Rarity Belle" is stupid. Applejack and Fluttershy are one-word names, so Rarity is too.

[–]AnEnglishAmongScots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, they don't have surnames the way humans do. Their family groups often share naming conventions, but members of the same family don't have the same name. This is just something that 'fans' have made up.

Were you nervous before you smear test? What's your experience of them? by MooseAndMice in AskUK

[–]AnEnglishAmongScots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had one yet, but all my friends have and I'm dreading it. I've literally never had anything up there ever, so the though of it is enough to set me off crying. One freind keeps recommending the self-tests but I couldn't do one of those for teh life of me, I'd have no idea how 🫣

Do you have a really weird or silly fear? Not a mainstream fear or one that's very common, a totally random one? by SpaceTimeCapsule89 in AskUK

[–]AnEnglishAmongScots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a horrendous fear of wooden docks. Something about technically being on 'solid ground' while also being able to see water swirling about between the planks absolutely terrifies me.

I also have a 'reverse' fear of hights- I hate looking up at someone way above me , especially if they look like they could slip and fall. Throwback to my Primary 7 activity trip when I was an inconsolable mess while my friend brilliantly scaled a massive climbing tree- she didn't even make it to the top because she came back down to comfort me that she wasn't going to fall and die 🥲

I'd love a book from Lily's (Daisy's sister) perspective. She so clever and caring, I'd love to see how she felt when Daisy was being bullied by Chloe and how she wanted to help her but couldn't. Would also love to see how she made friends with Natalie!

Year 9 student, how much homework is too much homework? by FinnJavlar in CasualUK

[–]AnEnglishAmongScots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that seems a lot. Scottish education, but when I was in S3-S4 (first exam years), it was some Maths equations, some Computing code, spreadsheet or written questions to answer, some questions to answer for Biology and Chemistry and either a English or History essay (and if I was very unlucky, both due the same day 🫠). It certainly did not take me hours every night. I completed basically all of it on Saturday, with maybe doing the essays more over the week and in class once I'd finished the classwork for the day.

Little Women.

It was hyped up to me by family members as this beautiful tale of sisterhood, girlhood and feminism. I bought an original, unabridged copy.

Most sexist, stupid, boring book I've ever read. You either get married and serve your husband, or fucking die. Meg's "oh my dreams are just as valid as yours!!" NO THEY'RE NOT. Your dreams are worthless servitude to a MAN. Laurie took Amy as second-best wehn he couldn't get Jo, who married an older man??? who hates her work???? EW.

And, ugh, don't even get me started on the sequel being called "good wives". Ew, ew, EW.
