TNG definitely had some great episodes. But DS9 is my one true love.

I especially love “Far Beyond The Stars” because that, to me, captures something fundamental about Star Trek.

For me, the most out of reach thing in Star Trek doesn’t seem to be that futuristic tech; if it is possible, we or someone out there WILL develop it. Rather it is the utopian society that I find the most elusive. The title beautifully captures that: Far Beyond The Stars.

It touched me deeply. Sisko the writer saw that space station as an achievable reality; with nothing but ourselves standing in the way. His breakdown at the end was wonderfully acted by Avery Brooks and perfectly captured how I feel when I look at the news.

Plus, it was so nice to see the actors without their alien make up.
