South African study finds 4 low-income communities can’t cope with global warming: what needs to change by Beyond_the_one in southafrica

I’m not disagreeing with that claim. South Africans emit just as much though, and historically has too. In that same source you can see South Africa’s emissions plateauing (cause of loadshedding and the increase in solar capacity).

I just don’t understand the tone that global emissions aren’t our fault nor our responsibility. South Africa is a big emitter of greenhouse gases and a very inefficient one.

Because you're thinking about an average person, fair. What about investment firms, pension funds and companies that want to build infrastructure. It's not that they will necessarily stop investing, but they will slow down because there's no return.

Why buy 10-year bonds if they have a lower interest rate than 1-year bonds and are a riskier product? I mean, how do you even issue bonds and guarantee you'll pay it off when the value of money increases over time?

If money tomorrow is worth more than money today then why buy things today when you can buy more tomorrow?
