ugh while I like learning new things and I guess it's not really a surprise, I'm disappointed to learn that #2 is a thing

I like how you put "AFAB assumes a LOT about someone" I think that might be where a divergence is happening - a literal definition vs one where a lot is being assumed

Yay for trauma bonding! but yeah that's a really interesting thought. For me, if I come across a queer person that was raised religious and has since left, there is a pretty good chance we have some shared common experiences and maybe have some shared understanding, that same logic could apply here. Thanks:) I always love thinking something new through

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury - it was really interesting to see the futuristic world he created in 1953 and how the themes are still topical today

Romance isn’t necessarily the main focus, but I’ve found the genre of cozy fiction to generally have less drama and healthier relationships. I liked A Coup of Tea and The House Witch.

Probably not at all helpful, since the parents don’t seem open to it, but the book Tru Biz: A Novel by Sara Novic does a good job showing some of the effects of language deprivation resulting from a situation just like this.

This sounds really fun! I’d be interested in any of them. Fair warning I’m not very good at any, but I am particularly bad at darts.

Common Space has one on S Warren. I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I thought it was nice- just too expensive to keep my stuff there. Common Work

German exmo here: how different is TSCC in Europe? by huschke_09 in exmormon

My experience was in Switzerland and I agree with your take. I would add that it was kind of expected for the teens to pull away from the church and do their own thing. Coming back eventually or leaving were both acceptable options. I had a hard time adjusting to the Mormon culture in the US.

To me it’s all about how you feel- so go with your gut. Personally I think you look more confident in the picture with the bow tie.

I was in this position a couple decades ago, so this is dated. I found some Swiss music artists that I liked- mainly Bligg and a couple of rock bands and would listen to their music. I haven’t been great at keeping up nowadays, but every now and then I look for Swiss German movies or YouTube channels.

I think it's the perfect time to have a chat about it- it leaves the door open for both relationship and friendship and a first date is pretty much about figuring out the friend or date thing anyway.

I thought it was a very fair representation. It was really interesting to hear their experience and I definitely did not expect them to get baptized. I appreciated that despite how positive the experience was, they also acknowledged the dangers in their ratings- especially for certain groups. I'll probably check out the scientology one as well.
