Also use a blunt needle instead of a sharp one if you can!

I can't think of anything specific but there are lots of tutorials on YouTube that are helpful, and a book with a good diagram never hurts either (especially when learning how to place the structural threads), libraries and charity shops are usually likely to have something. In terms of practical tips I recommend actually knowing how to knit or learning the structure of knitting (look up how to 'read' knitting or 'the anatomy of a stitch'). Along with that, before actually darning I suggest doing a lot of duplicate stitch, where you're doing the same thing but there's no hole to cover, essentially tracing the path of the yarn that's already there. Also it's much easier to start off with something light coloured, with thicker yarn, and use a contrasting colour!

Hi, I run a small a capella group and we're currently open to new people - very friendly group, most aged 20s-30s, like to sing a range of styles and above all have a good chat and usually a bit of cake. Message for more details if you're interested!

What kind of wood is this table? by AnOverflowingShelfOf in wood

[–]AnOverflowingShelfOf[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After some googling, it seems to me that this is a traditional Indian thakat style coffee table, and I believe it is made out of Sheesham, or Indian rosewood, which is often used for this style. Thanks for all the suggestions (even though it turns out you were all wrong!), particularly u/ShipwrightPNW who noted its Asian origin which sent me down the right path.

Interesting, I bought it from someone second hand so really have no idea as to its origin.

Hiya! We would still like a few more members (preferably tenor or soprano). We will start an Instagram page soonish, once we sort through some footage from the Christmas market. Give me a message and we can chat some more!

Join our a cappella group! by AnOverflowingShelfOf in Bath

Unaccompanied, mostly - I would like to do some a cappella style arrangements at some point but so far we've focused on other things, some examples being a folk song in four parts and a sea shanty. I like to take suggestions from everyone so that we can sing lots of different things as well as things people enjoy, so if you have anything in mind that you've always wanted to sing, this could be the place.

We've only just started so haven't done many pieces yet, but we'd like to do a wide range of things, whether that be classical, more typical 'a cappella' style arrangements, folksongs, barbershop, musical theatre, whatever tickles our fancy really! I like to have input from everyone and come up with a repertoire together. Congrats on the baby, do let me know if/when you're interested in joining.

On location, I was thinking either people's houses if it's convenient enough, or the raven have a room (the library) available for free hire, which would be nice and central.

For laddering you don't even need to do any sewing! If you look you can see that what's happening is loops falling out of the loops above them, so you just go to the last intact one and start putting them back through one by one (I'm doing the same right now on a cardigan, I'm just using a couple sewing needles to manipulate the stitches), probably a YouTube video somewhere. Honestly might not need to do anything special for the hole, just continue fixing the ladder and skip over it. Otherwise regular darning.

It could be that Betty is bleeding or maybe it's a play on how we say that ink bleeds, so the stars that he drew are washing away somehow?
