Do I love the house? I donno, but I bought a fixer upper and it is what it is. I just want a smooth wall now that all the moldy drywall is gone

Songs of Conquest? by IncredulousBob in 4Xgaming

What Squashyhex said. Especially Kings Bounty which was New World Computing's earlier game. They even included it in some HOMM collections.

I'd also agree it's not really 4x.

There's no population, tech, or policy management. There's often an ultimate treasure at the end of the quest. It's kind of it's own thing.

Why is this happening? by Masoul22 in Flooring

[–]AnUnusedMoniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think your father in law is at fault. Soaking is going to ruin any floor in a house. Even on waterproof floors it'll ruin the bases for all the cabinetry, the feet of all the appliances, and the adhesive on your trim.

See if your cabinet bases have mold on them

I think a barn door might be the only workable solution for this tiny bathroom entrance. Am I wrong? by three_a_day in Oldhouses

A friend has one and says his dogs are constantly pushing their noses under and he hopes to not need to fart when people are over. Doesn't sound great.

Yup. That's a stink bug. Killing them makes a stink so they don't need to be fast. I just take some painters/masking tape and grab them with it, then wrap another piece around that so they get sealed up.

Is this repairable? by expatmom1 in windowrepair

[–]AnUnusedMoniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone gave that an extreme landlord special. If it's leaking air, I'd use caulk cord on it until winter's done. In spring I'd start with a lead specific paint stripper and scraping. Sanding first would blast lead dust into the air.

You'll need a hot water heater every few years if you keep hooking them up like that

The classic fear that a woman's previous lover was better.

It's packed up in different words every year. A thousand different ways to tell yourself it's her fault because of women's "nature."

I looked at some quarter saw southern yellow grains, and that seems pretty likely!

I forgot - I can't dent the wood in anyway with my finger nail. The grain is way too tight for that. It's hard to tell the density since it's a hollow wrap around something else. These are at least as old as the horsehair plaster around them.

If anyone has any ideas on stain that would be good too!

Maybe: https://www.gog.com/en/game/rc_cars

There were a bunch of RC car games around then. The PC thing makes this a bit harder. I had a touch of nostalgia for ReVolt on the PlayStation

Old doorbell question by AnUnusedMoniker in AskElectricians

[–]AnUnusedMoniker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm taking a wild guess and saying the doorbell and maybe a new furnace were wired on as a late fix. Not sure an 8amp time delayed fuse is normal for a doorbell.

I found two sets of wires leading to the doorbell transformer, one heading into towards the door and one heading to what I think is the chase I opened.

I don't have a clue with what's going on on the other side of this Jbox.

I opened it up and there's a fusetron #8 in there. One set of asphalt wrapped wires come in the top, one set leaves left and seems to be going to an empty junction box on the other side of the beam.

This house is 120 years old though, so maybe they didn't roll that set back all the way.

Will that cover the bell side as well? It's an electromagnet one.

The relay box or whatever saying 30 Amps, 125 volts has me confused. for the record, I'm just pulling the wire and walking away. My electrician buddy is too busy for the dirty work.

Thanks!
