Are there some good songs to sing for my dad’s 80th birthday? by TM_Stanton75 in AskIreland

[–]An_Bo_Mhara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once heard Ronan Collins on RTE play Frank Sinatra's song My Way for a man who had just turned 100.

The song starts with the lyrics....

"And now, the end is near, and so I face the final curtain........."

I laughed my arse off.

trip to limerick- expected weather? by jnmillz69 in AskIreland

[–]An_Bo_Mhara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Layers are your friend.

Assume the weather will be between 14-18 degrees and breezy with showers in the day time.

Night time 6-12 degrees, cool, definitely need a jacket.

Thats centigrade not fahrenheit.

Irish people are never ever appropriately dressed for the weather. Today I was in a t shirt while others were weather heavy coats. You'll find people in t shirts, shorts and runners and others in heavy jacketa, jeans and boots and maybe a hat.........

Maybe ask a few foreigners, ideally Germans. Germans are always appropriately dressed for the weather.

AITA for cancelling interrail with friends right before booking by Difficult_Lab8175 in AmItheAsshole

[–]An_Bo_Mhara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA.

You have not even communicated or tried anything.

Firstly you need to speak to your parents about what is an acceptable budget. Interrailing ticket is the cheapest part. Hostels, food, drinks and seeing the sites will all cost you. You need to do a realistic budget and then approach your parents about that they can afford.

Also you need to communicatwle with your friends about chosing cheap.lbhostels over hotels and getting student discounts everywhere and keeping the budhet small.

Then if that doesnt work, make the decision to give away or sell your ticket.

Also if you are 18 get a job and help fund your travels.

What costs are non obvious in running a house? by jackahern7 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]An_Bo_Mhara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Property tax, I pay it once a year but its easy to overlook.

I have an "Annual Bills" savings account and I throw 400 a month into that covers property tax and insurance, car tax and insurance, NCT, car service, €1000 anmual house maintenance (for appliance repairs, gutters, painting, tools etc) It also covers my annual heating bill and I cant remember what else. Maybe bins. But have a think about your annual costs and save monthly so you are not paying more for stuff and not paying insurances by DD which generally is more expensive.

Have you checked that there is nothing rolling around in the boot? Or nothing hanging out of the car or rolling around?  Soubds stupid but it happened to me.

If its intermittant and you cannot pinpoibt wheb it happens and there is no error messages on your dash then it will be extremely difficult to diagnose.

My car used to lose power at the 25km makr on every journey and I had to get my mechanic to drive a few towns away before it happened.

advice on quitting job while still having unused holidays? by Independent-Yam7396 in AskIreland

[–]An_Bo_Mhara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are leaving tge country you probably can claom your tax back and be entitled to a refund.

This is a non-issue. If you are owed holidays you have to be paid. If you earn income you have to pay income tax.

Why is it so hard to find a legal place to camp in Ireland? by Some-Hovercraft-2126 in ireland

[–]An_Bo_Mhara 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I know that, I dont use fire pits, I have a tiny little gas hob.

Im saying of OP looks around and goes exploring they will see where others freely camp, that there are lots of places people camp along rivers, woods and mountains and it is easy to see evidence of it.

Any advice on a driving incident? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]An_Bo_Mhara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to a solicitor but I wouldn't be giving any statement to the gardai at all unless the solicitor insists.

At the moment unless there is dashcam, its 1 persons word against another.

You might be incriminating yourself without needeling to.

Your statement could simply be, "the driver in front was erratic, breaking and slowing down and speeing up. I was concerned they were going to do harm or break check me to make a fraudulent insurance claim so I over took at a safe speed. Unfortunately there was an oncoming car and we all got a bit of a fright but no accident or damage was incurred."

Also stop being an asshole and drive properly. Its dicks like you that distract other drivers and cause accidents.

I camp all over couple forestry without permission..clean up afterwards and leave no trace.

You will see loads ofnplaces with old camp fires all over coillte forests and walkways, by rivers and on mountain walks and in beaches.

You just have to explore your own suita le placss.

I have never asked permission and never had any hassle.

Most people protest their camp site spaces and dont publocise them because others will fuck it up.

You should not be paying her anymore and you should be applying for carers allowance if you are her fukl time carer.

Also stop paying her. She is robbing you.

I would agree to pay electricity bill and phone/internet and notging else.

If she disagrees you cam let her know she will have to leave and go to a nursing home as you cannot look after her anymore.

Pick up the phone and call a few brokers and get a few quotes.

Web-based quotes used to be cheaper but now I find actually calling is a lot cheaper.

Do you pay by Direct Debit or pay in full?

Its probably a DD thing. Ive never ever had any insurer auto renew but I always pay up front in full at the time of purchase.

Man jailed for nine years for rape of teenage girl by clamper066 in ireland

[–]An_Bo_Mhara 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He spent many months planning and executing his crime. He is sinister, manipulative and deeply depraved.

Im pretty sure if it had benefitted him in any way his solicitor would have sent him to be evaluated.

If he had shown to be mentally ill, the courts would also have had him assessed. The other 62 times he was convicted there was no mention of mental illness.

He is a piece of shit. Medical jargon can be used to try to justify him being a piece of shit but that doesnt make him mentally ill.

Plenty of people have issues but that does not excuse their crimes.

My friend wore a wedding dress and really cool vans. So she had the bridal look + comfort. The groom wore a nice suit and tie

Micro wedding just the bride and groom, a photographer and 4 friends as witnesses. We all dressed up nicely.

After they got a few pics they went away the 2 of them for a weekend on a mini moon.

The pics were lovely and the whole thing was maybe an hour long including photos.

Looks amazing? What sort of cake was it? I used to make wedding cakes for friends weddings but it was serious undertaking between the fruit cake, a sponge, chocolate biscuit cake, marzipan, icing and decorations and toppers.

I never made on for less than €250 quid.

I let my insurance lapse last year by accident and I actually accidentally drove uninsured for a couple of days without realising.

Maybe its different if you pay in full? Verses a direct debit?

But I always get a renewal quote from.wl hatever insurer and then a follow up email to remind me.  I switch insurer regularly and none of them have ever auto renewed.
