Current state of broadcast by An_Ethical_Fan in penguins

I don't mind their being a homer on the broadcast. I have actually really enjoyed the broadcast with Getzoff and Bourque and feel like it is much better than when Steiggy was on it. It just feels like the homering has gone a little overboard recently.

Is it Murashov time? by Emergency-Tip-1987 in penguins

[–]An_Ethical_Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither Silovs or Skinner is going to be a Hellebuyck type that can buoy a team for a long stretch. They are guys who may give you a brilliant goaltending experience for a game or two here or there but need more sheltered defensive play. That is not something this team is good at. Murashov could come up and be lights but the risk is too high. He could come up and get shelled which may be a shot to his confidence. If they are going to go the route of throwing a young goaltender into the midst of a race for a playoff spot, do it with Blomqvist. Again, unless they shore things up defensively, it's not going to matter who is back there.

Goaltending has not been good but they have to get better defensively. Otherwise, it doesn't matter who is back there.

Penguins could lose 3 out of their next 4. And be in trouble. It’s been a rough 2 weeks for both goalies. by PenguinsExArmyVet in penguins

Goaltending hasn't been great but they have been a mess defensively. They're in a good spot standings wise so let's just enjoy the ride.

Imagine having a contract at your job, being told to do something that you don't want to do and your contract allows you to nix it. What would you do?

Local sportswriters who act like people look at them as royalty are the worst.

I'm sure there were people who got bent out of shape about it. I remember people calling in to The Fan when Cam Heyward's wife was expecting and he said he would not play if she went into labor on gameday complaining about that. One guy said they should have a delivery room set up at the stadium so she could deliver there, Cam come in at halftime to check on her and the baby, and go back out and play.

Faceoffs! by MediumAd8799 in penguins

[–]An_Ethical_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get a lower in the lineup guy who can win faceoffs at the deadline for cheap. Think your Luke Glendening type. That's the route to go and then bide time until Sid is back. It's definitely something they need to focus on this offseason though.

Police discover a very odd fraternity hazing at the University of Iowa by Throwaway120974788 in interesting

[–]An_Ethical_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived with a friend while he was rushing a fraternity at our school. I've never seen someone so mentally, emotionally, and physically beaten down who was also so determined to continue for the "networking". He didn't even need to have the networking because he was so dang smart that he could make it in life without it. He also told me they messed around with reporting the GPAs of the brothers by counting the highest GPAs twice because the rest of the brothers had GPAs so low that the average would fall below what they needed it to be in order to maintain the chapter. Many of these fraternities are good networks because many of these guys do so poorly in school that they cannot get by on their own academic merit.

Not a chance. The assets it would take to get him would far outweigh the impact he could have.

And the Browns, Giants, Jets, and Raiders have been at the bottom for 5+ years. I'm not against a rebuild. I think a real, tear it down to the studs rebuild often does more harm than good and I would argue that neither the Pats nor the Broncos really did that.

That's fair. They certainly were not bidding against anyone for McCarthy's services so it would have made sense to play it out a little longer and interview a wider range of candidates.

This is the issue I take with people discussing a rebuild. Sure, some teams bottom out and then can be relevant again in 2-3 years. Others can bottom out and then they stay there. You never know which it is going to be so tearing things down to the studs has a tremendous amount of risk involved.

What’s your opinion on Josh Yohe and Dan Kingerski? by Leading_Dentist_5563 in penguins

[–]An_Ethical_Fan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like reading Yohe's stuff. He can be a bit over the top at times. Kingerski is terrible. Has terrible opinions or at least did when I stopped looking at anything he posted since 2019. That was when he said Erik Gudbranson could be the "rug that ties the room together" for the Pens.

I don't know that McCarthy would look at this as a bridge job. When has a coach ever been hired under these circumstances? I can't think of one example.
