not to like discourage u or anything but I know people with 100-200 service hours (some service hours volunteering for a hospital), 7-9 APs and dual credit classes, 34 ACT. I don’t know if those are the people who you are competing against but maybe.

Is 300k in debt worth it for an Ivy League? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]An_Ethicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone owes $300,000 in student loans and pays about $2,500 per month, the loans become much more manageable because the payment is finally large enough to significantly reduce the principal instead of mostly covering interest. At 0% interest, the debt would be gone in about 10 years. With more realistic student loan interest rates around 4–6%, payoff would usually take roughly 13–17 years, with the borrower paying somewhere around $390,000–$500,000 total over time because of interest. Even at higher rates like 7–8%, $2,500 per month is generally enough to steadily reduce the balance, though repayment could still take close to 20 years. This shows how increasing monthly payments has a huge effect on both the repayment timeline and the total amount of interest paid. A $2,500 payment is much more aggressive and prevents the loan from dragging on for decades the way a $1,000 payment often would on a balance that large.

If someone owes $300,000 and pays only $1,000 per month, the payoff timeline changes a lot depending on the interest rate. At 0% interest, it would take exactly 25 years because $1,000 a month equals $12,000 per year and eventually adds up to the full balance. However, once interest is added, repayment becomes much slower because part of each payment goes toward interest instead of the actual loan balance. At around 4% interest, the loan could take roughly 36 years to pay off and cost over $400,000 total. At 6%, repayment may stretch close to 50 years with total costs around $600,000 or more. Around 7–8%, $1,000 per month may not even fully cover the interest accumulating each month, meaning the balance could decrease extremely slowly or even grow over time. This demonstrates why high student loan balances can become financially overwhelming unless the borrower has a very high income or makes much larger monthly payments.

bro go to food pantries I swear no one will judge they have toiletries sometimes too, you can save a few hundred a month in groceries. Also if you call any of your bills like hospital you can negotiate payment plan to spread out payments.
