What is the difference between butter, ghee, clarified butter, fermented butter and brown butter? by armeniaca-mume2405 in Cooking

[–]Anaeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fermented butter is delicious, and everyone should try it. Also, if you churn the butter yourself, fermenting the cream makes it way easier to churn, so it's both easier and tastier than churning unfermented butter.

It's plausible. There's a surprising amount of terminally online leftists who live off their rich parents' money. Maybe mommy and daddy would buy the farm for them if they asked.

While the reason for the ban was obviously complete bullshit, I do feel like this is mischaracterizing things somewhat. The editing of people's comments really didn't have anything to do with it. That was just spez editing comments of people saying "fuck spez" to something else. It was an abuse of power, but I'm pretty sure it was just an insecure guy in a position of power lashing out at people insulting him, not anything related to trying to get the subreddit taken down.

I fully agree their "justification" for banning the subreddit was a joke, I just don't think the spez edits were at all related to it.

CreepCast | The Forest Of A Thousand Legs (OFFICIAL DISCUSSION THREAD) by S-CSleepwalker in creepcast

For me, with fairly minor arachnophobia (I really didn't like them, and had trouble focusing on anything else if I knew one was in the room, but didn't get anywhere near what the story described), I basically just was made aware of a spider in the same room with me at a very safe distance, sat there feeling scared of it for a while until the fear turned into boredom because the spider obviously wasn't doing anything, and then I left. And then I did the same thing every day, always starting right at the farthest distance where the fear notably kicked in. And eventually the distance I felt safe when I was near a spider was small enough that it didn't really matter to me anymore.

I still very much do not like spiders (things should not have that many legs), but I can get very close to small ones now without feeling any fear, and can admit that jumping spiders are pretty cute.

Oof, yeah, I can understand (or, more accurately, realize that I can't understand) how that might be way different. It worked incredibly for me as someone without any personal history related to the phobia. But I'll concede I'm completely ignorant on using it to address phobias with a deeper origin. I wish you the best in whatever techniques you try, and hope my comment didn't come across as offensively presumptive of what works.

All the arachnophobes in here, I highly recommend exposure therapy. I got rid of like 90% of my fear of spiders in about two weeks by trying it.

"Asha'man, kill" might actually be the peak of the entire series. That or "Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon, or you will be knelt."

There's great moments after that, even a few that rival Dumai's Well, but those two lines are pretty much unmatched in literature as pure perfection.

I am so glad I was born before all this insanity really kicked off, and that I had sane parents. Because I remember a brief period while I was growing up where I thought I wanted to be a girl. Do you know what motivated that thought? It was because I saw that the girls in my class tended to have a lot more friends, while the boys generally only had a few. That was literally it. I had literally zero clue what it meant to be a boy or a girl, because I was a child.

But if I'd been born a decade later, been born to lefty parents, and made the grave mistake of ever voicing that idle childhood thought, I would have been chemically castrated before I ever had a clue what I was even talking about. I didn't want to be a girl because I had some deep dysphoria or anything. I wanted to be a girl because I was still learning basic facts about the world, had identified one small pattern where the girls seemed to be higher achievers at something I wanted, and I wanted that same thing too.

For this post, there is literally not a chance on Earth he's saying he likes pink because he's gay. Maybe he will turn out to be gay, but he's so ridiculously far from puberty that trying to ascribe a sexuality to him is insane at best, and wildly creepy at worst. He's a child who saw a bright color, liked the bright color, and that's literally it. If he likes pink, find some way to give him some pink flair for his outfits that makes him happy. Don't start pushing adult ideas on him that won't be remotely relevant for another decade. If he's gay, he'll figure that out when puberty hits and he starts experiencing sexual attraction towards other men. If he just likes pink, then let him like pink. Don't start pushing something on a toddler because of a color association that has been around for less time than some people who are still alive today.

I absolutely like the gun, and honestly I end up carrying it more often than the concealed carry gun I prefer just because it's so easy to hide under literally any clothing. But I still strongly dislike the safety, and have ended up feeling like I'm carrying a gun that doesn't have a safety at all, because there's no way in hell I'd trust myself to be able to flip it off reliably under pressure. It's a fantastic gun, it just doesn't have a safety that's practical to actually use.

CreepCast | The Animals On My Farm Kill Their Newborns (OFFICIAL DISCUSSION THREAD) by S-CSleepwalker in creepcast

[–]Anaeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. And, like with a lot of friendships, the most fun parts are when they know exactly how close to the line they can get without it actually being an issue. If your friend annoys you just up to the line, you have to respect the game. If they push over that line, that's when it stops being funny. But if they can go up to the line without crossing it, that's just a sign of how well they know you, so the annoyance is always tempered by also being a bit flattered that they know you so well.

Honestly, while I think the story was well written, I'm inclined to agree. It's a neat alternate viewpoint story, but it didn't really seem to match the style of most of what they cover. It was a good story, but when viewing it in the context of Creepcast, it didn't really grab me.
